+132 Seniors (65+) especially the ones in power, are ruining the world, amirite?

by Available-Travel 2 days ago

Don't worry though. When you hit 40 everything automatically becomes your fault no matter how broke or powerless you might be.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'm bout to turn 40 not feeling great

by Natural_Instance_607 2 days ago

Just turned 40 can confirm, its all my fault

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Actually voting has increased on average for 18-29 year olds. Just too many are being brainwashed to have boomer takes, especially young white men.

by romaguerajustus 2 days ago

I know far more young people who understand economics far more than boomers

by Anonymous 2 days ago

and I know lots of 40 years old who end up saying 'god I was such an idiot in my 20s'.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The brain starts to decrease in mass (loss of grey matter) from atrophy in your late 30s and early 40s, and declines more rapidly past age 60. Young people are objectively intellectually superior.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Look up ages of Nobel prize winners. 20 year olds have the computing power, but no life experience and little knowledge of the real world.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

And yet most elderly people aren't voting with the interests of the next generation in mind; they're voting in accordance to their beliefs that stem from outdated ideas, and for what they believe to be in their best interest (which very often isn't).

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Wisdom clearly doesn't come with age that's the whole point. Are you daft?

by grayce73 2 days ago

Ageism is a deliberate distraction from the Class War. The problem isn't 65+ "boomers". The problem is the One Percent and their servants in Congress and the White House, who are working to destroy our lives. Including destroying the lives of the working class and the poor... over 65.

by Affectionate-Host150 2 days ago

Boomers as a class have systemically pulled the ladder to behind themselves. They restrict housing development and affordable housing to increase the price of their own properties. They borrowed against social security and are now getting paid out money paid into the system by the younger generation; leaving behind a broken system unable to repay those that come after them. They refuse to leave politics and have basically had two generations worth of power. There's been an unbroken streak of boomer presidents since 1992, and the median age in the Senate and Congress have increased too. They are funding government spending on themselves with debt that still eventually have to be paid back by someone that is not them. The multi millionaire class has done a lot of damage, but they do it with power given to them by boomers. Boomers sold the world to the billionaires.

by AdPositive873 2 days ago

The current president's dad was born in 1905. They all need to get off the ride.

by WoodpeckerUnique 2 days ago

It's also what all generations say about the surviving elders.

by Mobile_Willow7903 2 days ago

There is literally nothing I've seen politically from millennials that makes me think things will get better. 2020 summer of love/terrorism? Anti free speech? Extreme susceptibility to government propaganda/authoritarianism? Identity politics and anti meritocracy? Mass celebration of political violence? No thanks.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Two headed snake.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Don't worry, you'll be ruining the world for the future generations (if they exist).

by Anonymous 2 days ago

To me it's the opposite. The number of unhinged and mentally ill young people is terrifying. To think they will be running the country some day makes me deeply anxious.

by Master_Tea3289 2 days ago

The past few decades of boomer governance have been the most peaceful and prosperous in history. I have zero faith in the Ben Shapiro and AOC generation. I'll take my chance with the zoomers

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah, but people over 65 know the actual definition of "blindsided."

by Eulaliaraynor 2 days ago

The story is as old as time. Don't worry your turn will come.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Remind us again about the turnout in the last US election for all those young people.

by FollowingShoddy6712 2 days ago

Then do something about it. Be the change you want to see in this world.

by Radiant_System6296 2 days ago

Nah. Younger and middle-age people are ruining things too.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Bill Clinton is 79 and was born in 1946. George bush Jr. is 79 and was born in 1946. Obama is 64 and was born in 1961. Trump is 79 and was born in… you guessed it, 1946. Biden is the only non-boomer. He's 82 and born in 1942. Boomers have been President for 32 years. Not exactly a "hot take."

by Anonymous 2 days ago

By that logic, 38-year-old Lauren Boebert is a superior politician than 83-year-old Bernie Sanders.

by DragOk3360 2 days ago

There will be exceptions that prove the rule.

by Pricejennyfer 2 days ago

No this is bordering on ageism, nothing wrong with pple over 65 in positions of power, we just shouldnt let selfish bigots run the world. Elon musk is under 65 but how do u think things would turnout if say he was president of usa.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's not really the age that's the issue - it's the overrepresentation. As in it's no different to it being all men or whatever. There's certainly ageism in the criticism of people being that age.

by Hahnpietro 2 days ago

In most jobs ageism is unfair because it denies opportunities without cause. But in this case, where decisions directly shape the future of younger generations, proper representation of age matters. no one is saying Elon should run this country, but neither should someone like Trump

by rudolphbeatty 2 days ago

Never said any of those two's issues are directly related to age - the person I was responding to used that as a flawed example. However it is a fact that the demographic 65+ is overrepresented in Congress in the US and common sense that this would skew policy making and decisions

by rudolphbeatty 2 days ago

I wouldn't say throw out people based on age - but try and have the govt actually represent the US population a bit better which it doesn't right now. So we have 35-40% 65+ members right now but ideally it should be closer to 20%. You could even have more positions for younger people to do this instead of removing people.

by rudolphbeatty 2 days ago

Well, the entire House is screwed up; there should be a lot more Representatives. That's one way to do it. But I'm also a bit worried about the sanity of the electorate (and elections in general at this point).

by Historical_Band 2 days ago

Exactly because trump is a selfish bigot, if trump was president at 45 he would still make the same biased decisions, disregarding just by age is way too simplistic

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's common sense though. No one is disregarding "just by age" but it's silly to pretend age doesn't have any influence on decision making. 65+ are also factually overrepresented in congress compared to the actual population in this country

by rudolphbeatty 2 days ago

Because unlike us, they have lived and they understand the world. They know things we don't. They have no time for moaners who want to play revolutionaries and I'm grateful to them for that.

by amparo92 2 days ago

No they aren't 40 year olds can be just as corrupt, at least the seniors have an expiry date.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's less about age and more about character.

by Time-Acanthaceae 2 days ago

Rather, greed and the lust for power is as ever ruining the world

by QueasyBeginning6197 2 days ago

The only war is the class war everything else is a distraction. The wealthy are ruining the world for profit and getting you to be pissed about everything but that

by Beautiful-Pea 2 days ago

As Xi told Putin a few weeks ago "People rarely lived to be over 70, but these days, at 70, you are still a child". They are delusional beyond belief

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Tell me that you live in USA without telling me that you live in USA.

by dean47 2 days ago

cheers from hell

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Are you saying the very old make good leaders where you're from? Wow, where are you from!

by Pricejennyfer 2 days ago

No, i'm saying leaders are generally not 65+ where i'm from.

by dean47 2 days ago

But if you live in the USA then that is the world isn't it?

by Round-Performer5286 2 days ago

Because as you said, those people have the power, or rather, the money. You can't dislodge them easily, unless you yourself have enough money to battle against them. With that money they can control and make younger people move their way. You need to have a huge self esteem and pride in your beliefs to fight against money, or you need to have enough to cover your needs indefinitely, it's hard to achieve for a huge amount of people out there. Wealthy people tend to just want to get wealthier. As a spy once said: everyone has a price limit to do something. That's sad but this is the world we live in.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Not sure, the current leadership is well over 70 though... Give us a few examples of what you mean by ruining the world with their blindsided decisions.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

So.... Eugenics!

by Durward11 2 days ago

This is not unpopular opinion. Just one that every generation thinks of the one that is currently running the show. When we are 65 I'm sure gen c/d or whatever will think that of us.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's not true and you should open a history book. The difference is today people are living longer and holding offices longer. The stories of George Washington letting go of power and retiring are very few and far between.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You misspelled "running"...

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Amen sister

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Sir, this is UNpopular opinion

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Don't worry young make Gen Z are moving very far right so you'll have another wonderful generation of this.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The problem is capitalism.

by diegojohnson 2 days ago

Not unpopular

by Adelbert99 2 days ago

It's the ones in power, regardless of age The longest suffering victims of abusive seniors are other seniors

by Suspicious-Show 2 days ago

Why can't the old people just go play golf?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Seniors aren't the ones who are ruining the world. The ones in power are the ones ruining the world; they just happen to be seniors.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

this is the most boring and popular opinion on this site

by Starkwill 2 days ago

I disagree, a lot of the decisions of how the trajectory of the world should be is chosen by late 20s to 40s crowd. The only 60s folk that are ruining the world are the extremely wealthy...the average 60~ folk are just chilling

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Don't worry, it'll be our turn to ruin the world for the next generation soon enough

by Anonymous 2 days ago

100% agree. We need age limits in all levels of politics. Nobody above 60/65 should be in politics.

by Silly_Mud 2 days ago

Did you get picked sis?

by Silly_Mud 2 days ago

I agree. They won't let go of anything.

by MainSufficient8841 2 days ago

Don't lump women into that. Senior MEN are ruining the world.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

RBG. I rest my case.

by Pricejennyfer 2 days ago

Women can do anything men can do or so they say.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Women arent in charge. :::gestures broadly::: look around.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Senior women outnumber senior men, and it only gets more extreme the older that you get.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They're just as complicit too when they hold power

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yes. It's the baby boomers world. The rest of us just live here. The Millenials have a responsibility here. One we probably don't want. When boomers finally give up power will be when they die. So millenials will inherit that political power in our mid 60s. Mid 60s is already too old to be holding office and supposedly representing the people. So our sacred duty will be to take power BUT NOT HOLD ONTO IT -- then we institute age limits, and then hand off everything to gen z who will at that time be in their mid 40s. Millenials need to accept that we will never be in power, otherwise we will be doing the same thing the boomers are doing now.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Millennials were the largest age group in 2019. We have already abdicated power… to boomers…

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Because the isn't a maximum age limit for politicians, particularly in positions like the president.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not in Nepal!

by DueCap 1 day ago

Why do my 55-60 year old coworkers own 2-3 houses, sit around all day talking, making double, when I'm stuck paying $2500 a month for rent because homes near me are around a million?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Wait till you're 60, own a few properties while the kids are paying $7000 month rent because those same houses are now worth 3 million.

by ArtisticCartoonist91 1 day ago

Houses and land were affordable with one year's income for them. What you said literally makes no sense.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Now they take more years income. Maybe 3 or 5 When you are old it will be even more

by ArtisticCartoonist91 1 day ago

The issue isn't all of them. It's the rich/powerful minority. I see a lot of elderly people around where I live, and a large number of them complain about Trump and Putin specifically. But I have heard complaints about senators as well.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Billionaires, especially the far-right, are ruining the world.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Didn't someone well under 30 who was ruining the world just get their exit interview this week? Not that it's neck and neck with +65 year olds, just neck.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I tried to tell my mother once, you're raising us according to your childhood which is 30 years in the past. By the time we're adults, your world will have been 50 years ago. We can't raise our kids for a future we can't imagine by training them with the same constraints of a past they never lived.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Money printing and trying to save the dying social spending programs. Basically old people are gonna get some money and then it's gonna run out or cause even more inflation the 2020s inflation will look like child's play. And it's less to a constant need for population growth in a country where it's too hard for people to afford children without major sacrifices and most don't want them. It's basically hollowing out the country

by Forward_Juice 1 day ago

Every day this opinion becomes more popular. IYKYK

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How's that unpopular?

by InsuranceShort 1 day ago

Duh

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah once your in retirement you should be in retirement from politics as a whole

by Garry29 1 day ago

Hey I'm 45 and I'm on your side with this.
