+42 Skill based matchmaking makes the best players sweat every game, and that's not actually "fair" or fun, amirite?

by Cathycollier 7 hours ago

Most people are not the best players. SBMM benefits the majority at the expense of the minority

by jonesdwight 7 hours ago

in my opinion players that want to play against their own skillset should opt into the queue that does that. taking the "pickup game" option away from everyone isn't required to scratch that itch for them. tangentially, in my experience, I learned and got good specifically by playing people better than me. There's a point in the skill difference where it's not useful, but everything before that point is actually pretty beneficial imo.

So you're saying that people should que in ranked if they want a casual match against people near their skill level and que in casual to get absolutely obliterated every game by people they have no chance against? Doesn't that feel a little backwards? If playing against enemies that challenge you feels like a punishment, then why even play a competitive game? This might be a fun dynamic for a more sandboxy survival game or something where maybe finding ways to avoid the sweats can be part of the experience. It sounds horrible for a competive game. The whole point of competitive match-based games is to challenge yourself in an actual battle. It's not as fun if you are constantly getting stomped no matter what you do or if you barely have to try and just see big numbers go up.

Nah it benefits only the below average. About 50% are having a worse experience

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

Can you explain why?

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

Nah. As an average player in most games it helps a lot. Also the companies have the data to support this, which is why SBMM exists in most pvp games

by jonesdwight 6 hours ago

So what's the plan if 90% of the player base quits after a couple of weeks? The fact of the matter is there are so many games out there that if I get waffle stomped I will probably say ok this game is not for me and leave. After a short while the only players left will be the "hardcore" so for them it will be back to constant sweat matches and the developers will then shut the game down because there is not enough players to justify keeping the servers up.

because bad players are addicted to thinking they're better than they are

Thanks ChatGPT

This looks like its written by A.I. that aside I completely agree.

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

I actually agree with this, as a trade off. There should be a lobby for SBMM and a randoms lobby, to just have fun That's what I do at clash, trophy road vs 1v1s

by Klingrachael 4 hours ago

fully support SBMM, just not in a randoms lobby. Cod 4 / Halo 3 / all of those great memories playing with friends and stomping your way through the night don't really exist anymore. Rivals, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Val, CS, League - any competitive game in 2025 has it implemented in their casual queue.

by Cathycollier 4 hours ago

Halo 3 used Trueskill matchmaking, which was skill based matchmaking. COD 4 also used a form of skill based matchmaking

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

not comparable to 2025, no

by Cathycollier 4 hours ago

But not random lobbies like you're advocating

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

im certain you understand my point

by Cathycollier 3 hours ago

It always sucks for me anyway. My first few matches on any PvP game are always so easy it feels more like the tutorial. Then for some reason the algorithm mistakes this for me being some no-name MLG level and permanently sticks me in lobbies full of players who live and breathe the game and it ruins the experience for me.

by No-Highlight4353 3 hours ago

Will never forgive Valve for ruining Team Fortress 2 with this. It was a game designed to be fun, not to be an endless sweatfest as you try to rise the ranks.

Ignoring A.i. Absolutely agreed.

you think people are searching up SBMM who haven't played with it, and then complaining about it? really?

by Cathycollier 2 hours ago

yes that is specifically what i am advocating for

by Cathycollier 2 hours ago

The only people against sbmm are people bad at video games lol.

by Schinnerreyes 2 hours ago

this does not make sense to me. you think bronze players are mad they aren't playing diamonds?
