PFAS has nothing to do with plastic straws fwiw. And basically the entire earth's water supply is now contaminated with PFOA and other related chemicals. Theres a good Veritasium video on PFAS related chemicals.

We have invented better straws. Agave straws work just like plastic straws but actually decompose. You can make "plastic" cutlery out of the material, too.

They are a seemingly insignificant problem in every day life, right? Yet almost every day I deal with one of those stupid things. No, I don't like carrying my own old straw. I find the whole reusable idea somewhat gross considering it's a harder to clean pipe. Paper straws aren't just inconvenient and weird on the lips. I firmly believe they are dangerous. I don't know what goes in them and they won't say. But if the taste of my drink is altered or if it fizzes through the straw we got a BIG problem folks.

It's also worth mentioning that plastic straws are a statistically insignificant source of plastic pollution, especially relative to the amount effort it would take to phase them out of society, and even if we were going to, paper straws seem to be almost deliberately the most punitive replacement for them. It's like "Oh yeah? You talked a big talk about the environment, so here's a soggy straw that gives everything you drink through it an uncomfortable texture and taste, how ya feelin about the environment now Mr. Big shot? Some paper straws are better than others. My Jack in the Box has straws so bad I can not deal. The texture makes me cry. And I was always pro paper straws before that experience.
