+19 The root cause of almost everything going wrong in the world is humans not having evolved to feel empathy towards people who don't belong to their inner circle/community, amirite?

Is this something we've evolved to or is empathy not encouraged for out groups due to the society we live in? I'm not from Sundan or Palastine, but I feel empathetic for their struggles. I'm not Ukrainian, but I feel bad for them as well. I feel bad for everyone suffering all throughout the world, and I feel bad for wildlife that suffers due to deforestation and pollution.

I feel like this happens so much, everywhere, that I can't believe there isn't anything biological about it. But I completely agree that this can be mitigated through education or other social influences.

Evolved, or raised? I was absolutely raised to have empathy towards all people. I don't believe empathy is an evolutionary thing, it's a societal/cultural thing that we're taught.

I don't think we are designed for a lot of things but we are evolved to learn. Decency, civility, composure, dignity, compassion ; are all learned. But that's up to opportunities to be taught and willingness to put in work to rise above our baser instincts

So what you're saying is we as a species haven't really evolved past tribalism, at least not yet, and are seeing tribal resistance towards an integrated society.

The root cause of almost everything going wrong in the world is humans ... building pointless groups that then compete with each other.

I completely agree

agree, but I also think empathy can be educated.

It's more than just that but yeah it's a central issue.

nope. its certain humans need for conflict and domination. thats why there are wars. its why movies and video games feature that senselessness. its always the same stupid thing.

Um, well, there is ample evidence that the native welcomed Columbus and others, and then there's the Pilgrims... Plenty of humans have. We did not fail to evolve, IMHO. We devolved. #unexpectedDEVO
