+31 Companies raising prices on products that are in a competitive market isnt that bad, amirite?

Sure, they have every right to raise the price of something in high demand, and I have every right to bitch about it.

You can bitch about it of course, but it's definitely not "unethical" and devalues the term greatly in my opinion. If these companies were selling medicine in a monopoly or something, obviously that would be extremely unethical, but this is not the case.

Completely agree, not unethical, just annoying.

Just don't buy it is a stupid argument. Where does it end? If you can't afford food just don't eat? My point being if everything becomes unobtainable to the common people something in the system is wrong. Because you can say ohh it's luxury. But what about phones and computers? You need those to participate in society. They are a necessity. I don't care about Ferraris but a car needs to be obtainable if a car is needed to hold a job etc...

That's why I clarified that if it's not in a monopoly than it's not unethical. Yes you need phones and computers to participate in society, but Apple is not the only seller. Ferrari is not the only car manufacturer.

But they become more expensive and income gets lower. This is a thing that happens over time. So yes today but will they be tomorrow? With growing poverty, inflation and rising (completely made up) prices it is a question of time. And that doesn't necessarily mean we will come to some inevitable doom scenario, I don't want to be too dramatic here but there is a trend. Things can happen to prevent this and that could be multi factored, wages could get better, taxes could go lower etc. It presents a problem that if not solved could get ugly.

Isn't that exactly how many of these companies started? If there is a market inefficiency or unmeet demand a company would have been made by now to take some market share from the dominant player.

That is the idea. Not the reality. The tech sector that was once innovative has become stale and they go to great lengths to suppress other companies.

by mariloukeebler 3 hours ago

By tech sector, do you only mean consumer electronics? The entire tech industry being "stale" is... a take. Reminder that 3 years ago, ChatGPT didn't exist.

AI has been revolutionary. Tech sector has most definitely not been innovative lol.

Doesn't this logic also extend to their exploitative hiring practices which you deem unethical? if people aren't happy with their working conditions they can find employment elsewhere

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Except for a large part of these workers they have no other choice, or their other choices are just as bad. In the case for customers of apple and Nintendo, they have the choice to buy other brands.

unethical in other ways (exploiting cheap labor in places like China for example Why is it considered unethical? For many of us in China, this is how we find employment. These opportunities provide valuable jobs. Working for foreign companies often comes with added benefits, as the workplace culture is usually better than any local companies. They also tend to offer salaries that are 20–30% higher than local employers. Is it that a 20–30% improvement isn't considered good enough by Western standards. Thus unethical. So you'd prefer we enjoy no improvement at all? I'm genuinely confused. Like how does that make sense? It is interesting that you think raising price is more ethical than that lol. (Not disagreeing your point that raising prices isn't bad)

Man, idk why ppl are so quick to throw shade on companies just trying to turn a profit. Like, if ya don't like the price, don't buy the thing. Simple. It's a free market dude, not some grand conspiracy. And tbh, if the product wasn't worth the $$$, it wouldn't be selling.
