And then I wonder how long I actually slept for and figure I might as well try to trick my brain into feeling energized by lying to myself and saying it must've been a decent amount of time. "After all like how could hours have gone by so quick if I was awake? Right…?"

You could say, we have a time machine which we call sleep.

No I have to be trying to watch something or doing something to fall asleep

by sporerlenora 8 hours ago

Or trying hard to not fall asleep. Those are the only two options.

Not true. I've fallen asleep watching a show or a movie I had every intention to watch till the end.

And then to pretend that you are asleep, first you need to make sure your brain doesn't think of anything.

When attempting to sleep, I concentrate on my breathing to clear my mind of thinking.

You can pretend to be asleep, you can't pretend to be awake.

If you've got kids you know this isn't true. My sons roll around, hold self conversations, wave their arms in the air, yeet stuffed toys off the bed (and have to go get them to put them back) Eventually they sleep, but they sure as hell aren't pretending first. Now the non parents among you may say, you gotta tire them out first, or you gotta put them to bed later... This is all happening at 10:15pm after they have spent the entire day running, throwing, riding, fighting, etc.

I agree. I've found that the easiest way for me to shut down my mind is to just listen to myself breathe, Lights out.
