I don't really go out of my way to care about their announcements and whatnot, but I don't remember anything showing that the cyclops is a child. The big thing for it is drinking wine and swinging around a weapon, after all. But I feel like you're going off of fan animatics a bit too much because the one reference to killing his son is him mocking how stupid he was for leaving a witness instead of being ruthless. Polyphemus and Odysseus were in the wrong in their meeting. It's not correct to take in the situation and decide to massacre hundreds of people because your adult son picked a fight and lost.
