It's okay to have dogs in grocery stores. amirite?
by Anonymous4 hours ago
It's a legal issue. Federal and state health codes generally prohibit live animals from entering areas where food is sold or prepared to prevent the spread of disease and contamination.

So dead animals are okay in stores but alive aren't? The point of cooking food is to get rid of germ growth

Dead animals aren't typically sold with hair still attached. I'm not worried about germs, I'm worried about a high shedding dog's fluff landing on my deli meat.

And the "messes they DO leave behind"
by Anonymous3 hours ago
That's fair. I don't think there is a significant risk of that happening.

It's definitely a risk. I have 3 dogs who are trained to stay out of the kitchen, but hair still ends up in the kitchen. Hair travels through air and on surfaces. I saw you mention people with allergies could "mask up" or take an allergy pill, but there would potentially be dog hair on any item they bring home with them contaminating their home and groceries. You know how often people drop things in a store and put them back on a shelf? It happens, but with your proposed idea those items would now have a glob of dog hair attached.

Do you think hypoallergenic dogs should be allowed?
by Anonymous2 hours ago
No. How would that be enforced?

Do you plan to cook your dog?

In my state it isnt legal. And, yes, dead animals are ok in the grocery store bc they are there to be sold for food, and have undergone safety measures to ensure they are as safe as possible. Pets have not. And no, pet owners dont have the right to have them there either. If the law says it isnt acceptable, it isnt. If you dont like the laws, get them changed.

I'm trying to change y'all's opinions!! Then we change the law!

Good luck, you have an uphill battle, rightfully so.

And there's the straw man

There are places for everything, and inside a grocery store is not a place for random dogs.

Why not?

So I might agree with you if all dogs were well trained. But so many are not. They will inevitably jump on people, trip people and cause them to fall, pee on products of the store. Service dogs have to be allowed to be ADA compliant and are well trained so they do not have the above problems.
