Are there people who find it unacceptable to use a pen until it's out? Or are there people who just need a pen and reach for the nearest pen. If someone insisted on only using the same pen until it was out, I'd say that's a perfectly fine preference to have. And I'd say it probably reflects well on them that they are organized enough that they don't just lose there pens all the time like I do. But if someone is so insistent on fully using up the ink of each pen that they, say held me up for more than a minute going to get the "right" pen when I needed them to sign a document, then I would say their priorities are out of whack.

Why, is anyone throwing out functioning pens just because? Why would it not be ok to use it until it runs out?

I'd love to use one til it runs out. It's probably just my writing style but they always break and start leaking out the tip before I get 75% of the way through it. Still always the goal though.
