+59 There is no reason to get a sports car unless you take it to a track to race, amirite?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I do use it, every time I drive it lol

by Imaginary_Ball 4 days ago

Why buy all the horsepower to never use it? Acceleration and handling.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

All that sweet buttery torque. *Chef's kiss*

by Chance-Corgi5047 4 days ago

Let's be real though, most people don't know how to make use of it

by Anonymous 4 days ago

What, and OP isn't being dramatic? lol

by Anonymous 4 days ago

OP is simply asking "What can you do with a sports car on the road? Why do people like them?" That's a genuine question.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

No they aren't, they are saying exactly what the title is. enough people have responded that they are fun to drive.

by Brief_Bullfrog 4 days ago

Sure but it gets you to the grocery store all the same😂

by Durganmossie 4 days ago

And you can buy nothing but potatoes at that grocery store, save money, and live just fine; but I bet you buy stuff that tastes good.

by Krajcikmortimer 4 days ago

I drive a gladiator but yeah, she's look great at the mall!

by Brief_Bullfrog 4 days ago

Loser

by Busy-Connection5514 4 days ago

lol, why?

by Brief_Bullfrog 4 days ago

Because they're fun to drive. That concept is unfathomable to people who drive penalty boxes.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

That first burst of instant torque from an electric car is pretty intoxicating. Maybe a little disorienting because of the lack of engine noise but it's pretty great.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Agree. The quiet and effortless acceleration of an electric beats any gas engine.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Sometimes its fun to drive the penalty boxes in ways they weren't meant to be driven, though. Not in the same way a sports car is fun, but still fun in its own way. Not disagreeing with you.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Cue the video of the 1000hp Honda Odyssey. (It's on YouTube.)

by Anonymous 4 days ago

GTI is a fun ride.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Yeah freeway on ramp merge. Passing. Low RPM acceleration. And looks or style. You don't have to push it to the limit. 2500 to 5500 RPM full throttle acceleration in one gear (stick shift, 3rd gear) is smooth and quieter compared to red lining 3 gears. V8 can go from 25-30 to 65-70 freeway on ramp merge fast in 1 gear.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Exactly. My car will take 3rd gear all the way to 90. The car can do 165mph on paper, but that's not the appeal to having a sports car. My cojones only reach 140mph anyway, and my risk tolerance rarely reaches 100mph.

by Reasonable-Diver 4 days ago

In my area, traffic is heavy all the time so having extra acceleration doesn't matter that much. And when I'm on an open road, acceleration really doesn't matter either as a vast majority of the time, I'm going the same speed. While it matters a little bit, it doesn't matter as much as me doing 80mph 99.9% of the time.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Spend your money however but whenever I see an expensive sports car on the road I always wonder "why?". How do you think the sports car gets to the track? Flight?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Usually on a trailer tbf... but I still massively disagree with OPs point

by GlitteringKing2067 4 days ago

You are technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Only if they aren't street legal as well. Or they are just trailer queens.

by Suspicious_Tap4267 4 days ago

Or you are just planning to push the limits at the track instead of playing it safe. It's much more relaxing when you know you can get home without hassle even if something goes wrong at the track.

by Jaynemedhurst 4 days ago

I would say like 30% of track goers trailer their cars, but even then its still a street car and they just want to be able to get home if it breaks.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

More likely a truck, or a cargo ship if it's going across an ocean.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

cause there exist windy, scenic drives that are often times empty except for my car.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Does that mean you like the turning, or the going fast. If turning, good for you. Not my thing, but I can see why you enjoy it. If fast, I hope you don't hurt too many others when you turn a hidden curve, and there is a pedestrian, cyclist, or slow moving car. ] [ Raise shields Mr. Sulu, prepare for incoming fire. ]

by Least-Meet-301 4 days ago

I enjoy driving in the sense I can put on a good book and listen as I drive along at the speed limit from point a to point b.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

A sports car is just as much about handling as it is speed. You don't think people speed anyway? lol that's cute. Feeling cool is perfectly acceptable. So sick of people thinking we shouldn't live out our boyhood dreams with lifted trucks or sports cars. What you drive every single day can be a form of personalization. Most people who obtain wealth want to show it off a little. Just like you want to show off your pink hair and septum ring. unpopular opinion by an unpopular person?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Oh man spoken like someone who's never felt the raw power of a machine meant for speed at the palm of their hands. Those cars just feel good to be in, to listen too, to accelerate. I mean its not everyone's cup of tea and thats ok but I feel like most people would atleast find it fun to drive even on the street.

by Reichertjeffrey 4 days ago

I do not have a sports car. But "because I like it" is a reason.

by Nienowkeven 4 days ago

Not unpopular

by Queasy_Researcher 4 days ago

You wonder why, I wonder why not.

by millscarlo 4 days ago

Why would you take a sports car to a track? They aren't race cars.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I know a decent amount of people who attend track days with their cars lol. Tons of sports cars can handle themselves on a track, and it's a blast to get to really use your car

by RadiantImprovement 4 days ago

Definitely an unpopular opinion! Not everyone is a car enthusiast and understands. That's okay

by Then-Analyst-9384 4 days ago

I have Corvette and I do actually want to take it to a track, just haven't yet as the open track days around me are very limited, I need to sign up early. Most of the time I drive perfectly normal just from point A to B. However, I may or may not have a back road from my work place that's out in the sticks and if no one is around I can floor it.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

All my 'sports cars' have been old and sluggish, so I'm not the one to talk, but I don't really think the performance is why many people buy them. My mr2 was great fun to drive even at 80kmh. I liked the design, the handling, the sound, pretty much everything about it. Same about the '79 z28 I have now. It's not fast now, hell it wasn't that fast even back in it's day. But it looks cool and sound good, and its a relic from another time, those things matter to me more than how fast I can drive it.

by Electrical-Fix 4 days ago

There is no reason to buy a Honda Odyssey unless you're gonna have a family of 8. See I can do it too

by Anonymous 4 days ago

But an Odyssey won't accelerate or take corners like a sports car. It doesn't have the low ride, good sound, optional manual gearbox, or feel of the road that a sports car offers. Even an odyssey does over 75. Why not limit all cars to 75?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Sounds like OPs never driven a sport car.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

because there are people out there who see cars as more than an appliance

by Anonymous 4 days ago

0-60 is hella fun lol

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I think I'm of the opinion that I don't understand why you'd buy it for the exact reason you are saying. I also think it's there money so send it if you'd like. If I had that money I don't think I'd buy a crazy nice car, but if you're into that go for it.

by DesignerLogical 4 days ago

Even more so a superbike. I say that as a superbike owner. There is more performance than I could ever use on public roads. There's more than I could ever use on a track! It sure is fun using what I can use, though! It looks super cool too. TBH, a smaller bike is more fun in a lot of ways, as well as being cheaper and easier to maintain.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

lol the standard driving speed in the left passing lane is 80-100 mph

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Hense Miata or any similarly powered car. You can wring it out and not go straight to jail.

by Puzzleheaded_Wish454 4 days ago

I find the acceleration and handling much more enjoyable that the speed.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

As someone who use to daily drive a corvette, I feel this. Outside of getting people to talk to you about a car, they dont really do anything but cost more to drive. They are kind of fun, but I'd debate if fun is jiggling around the shift stick in your fingers, then maybe you're just neurodivergent. I'd say my favorite thing about owning a sports car was that my friends felt cool riding with me in one, lol. I did like providing that for them.

by Busy-Connection5514 4 days ago

Acceleration, handling, aesthetics, form factor, sound, etc. I have a 2005 Honda Accord, and I find it much more fun to drive than my mom's 2025 Jeep Wrangler because everything I said above. Expensive sports cars, while not necessary, amplify those vibes.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

As a former 2008 accord owner (so no hate)…are they considered sport cars?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I don't really care about how it drives as much as I care what it looks like. Sports cars just look much better in my opinion. Also the sportier versions of regular cars (AMG, M, RS, etc.) usually come with more options while the regular variants either don't have lots of options or are really expensive when they do. A regular 1.5 eTSI Golf R Line (available in Europe) with all the fancy options like panoramic roof, hud, bigger rims, leather seats, heated seats, etc. costs almost as much as a full optioned Golf GTI. The GTI is faster, sounds better, but above all, looks much better and more aggressive. So why would I pay that much money for a lesser car, while I can pay a similar price and get more car in return?

by gregoria44 4 days ago

People are also vastly overestimating how much a nice sports car is. If we're talking run of the mill sports cars and not like Ferraris and Lamborghinis, they're usually about as much as a nice truck. Expensive but not ludicrous.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

It's fun

by ContributionAway9074 4 days ago

This is an unpopular opinion, but a reasonable one. The answer is because I can barely afford it and still want to.

by Favianlegros 4 days ago

I mean, you can drive a boring car your entire life, but I personally love driving my sports car (1989 Toyota supra) even just around town because I find it's just much more fun. You might not be going any faster, but you feel much faster. Also, sports cars are cool, and they make me feel cool when I'm driving them.

by heidenreichelwy 4 days ago

Try driving one.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

This reminds me of the full size truck arguments

by Anonymous 4 days ago

There's no reason to have a musical instrument unless you're in a band. There's no reason to have high quality kitchenware unless you're a professional chef. There's no reason to have a high quality computer unless you're into Competitive Gaming. You see how silly you sound now?

by mosciskiadrienn 4 days ago

By this logic, no reason to buy running shoes if you're never going to run. You ain't running a marathon or in a race, might as well buy those toe shoes for the optimal experience.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Because there hot and I have extra money

by Anonymous 4 days ago

You're Honda isn't doing 0-60 like my Trackhawk. The exhaust and supercharger whine melts my ears, I'll never get rid of this vehicle.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

"Wah wah wah I'm a big nerd" - op

by Next_Sorbet 4 days ago

I don't particularly enjoy driving other than getting from point A to point B efficiently, so I see what you're saying. There are plenty of people who do enjoy driving for its own sake, so they would tend to find driving something with good handling and acceleration fun. My 10 year old Honda Civic in no way shape or form handles like a sportscar. I'm aware of that and fine with that. I can see how it wouldn't be a fun car to drive for an enthusiast.

by Old-Athlete-8446 4 days ago

"There's no reason to—" Does it make you happy? There's your reason.

by Aromatic_Bathroom 4 days ago

Me liking it is reason enough.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Acceleration can get you out of accidents.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

But what if my dick is tiny? Like, almost an innie not an outie? The choice is sports car or big dumb truck, what if I have a micropenis and I don't like trucks?

by Fritschliam 4 days ago

Evidently you've never driven a sports car lol

by Vida72 4 days ago

Collecting sports cars and motorcycles is my hobby. I just enjoy having them and driving 10mph under the speed limit.

by Nitzschemonserr 4 days ago

OP has never experienced amazing acceleration or cornering like you're glued to the road.

by FunnyUnlucky 4 days ago

Have you ever ridden in one

by CalligrapherOther 4 days ago

I daily a C5 Z06, yes I'm doing 120 by the end of the on ramp, no I don't care 😁

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Drive a Honda odyssey and get in any v8 and try and tell me the odyssey is better to drive than the v8 at any speed

by Anonymous 4 days ago

The speed you are going has very little to do with how fun driving is

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Someone doesn't know how acceleration works.

by Roobcelestino 4 days ago

The CIO of a company I used to work at told he used to have a 911 and basically said the same thing, it was only fun to drive at the track. Ill never be able to afford one so I dont know but where I live people drive like animals on the highway so you need something to keep up lol.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

OP is right in that all automobiles drive exactly the same until you reach 76 MPH. Same acceleration, same handling. Hell they even look the same inside and out. There is literally no difference from 0-75 MPH.

by corkeryviola 4 days ago

I suppose I just don't value expensive looking items. I'm sure to make some watch people mad now as well as I see no point in owning a rolox when a timex works the same. I desire practicality in all things and nothing beyond.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Another thing that doesn't work the same lol

by Imaginary_Ball 4 days ago

Because a timex is worth $1 if you want to sell it. A rolex exceeds the inflation rate

by Imaginary_Ball 4 days ago

Why would I want to sell it? Not a watch wearer but if it did I would wear it until it broke and then replace it. Though in this case watches and cars aren't equivalent as cars depreciate but this is a tangent.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I buy neither I just have a roth. Different strokes and all

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Dick extenders.

by Dizzy-Milk1941 4 days ago

I think many people who don't own sports cars (which is most people) agree with this. That said, there is also the 'appearance is everything' crowd who couldn't imagine owning a boring sedan. And some people really like the better handling around corners/acceleration. I can't personally imagine liking that enough to buy an expensive/impractical car, but people are different. And some have more money than they know what to do with. And some are simply bad with money.

by Inevitable-Button237 3 days ago

Got the opportunity to drive a beauty of a Corvette and wow does it suck to drive in the city. So many blind spots, uncomfortable seating and acceleration is a pain because there is no room to move on the road. No a good car to drive but beautiful to look at.

by CareEquivalent 3 days ago

there is no good reason other than self indulgence. I think it is such a tragedy that so many awesome sports cars are never driven on a track, like give it to someone who will use it properly.

by marcelino54 3 days ago

It's like all of the off road vehicles that never leave the asphalt or concrete

by Sydnee94 3 days ago

Its all ego and thats it and if people say no they're just that far up their own ass

by Anonymous 3 days ago

People enjoy the driving experience of a sports car. Driving can be fun.

by Agile-Spring-3506 3 days ago

Driving a car that's fun is about ego?

by Imaginary_Ball 3 days ago

Ironically you'd have to be pretty far up your own ass to actually think this way.
