+63 TVs should have buttons still. If you lose your remote control, you should still be able to use your TV 100%, amirite?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

No consumer device should be dependent on a wireless remote control for basic functionality.

by ChemistryKey 5 days ago

Except maybe remote conrrol cars, no?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

I would call those toys rather than consumer devices. Maybe I should have used the word "appliances"?

by ChemistryKey 5 days ago

Reading comprehension is hard I guess for you.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Since the 50's. They used to not even be electronic either. They had mechanical buttons that made clicking noises at different pitches that the TV would react to. This is why remotes were often called "clickers".

by Healthy-Abalone 5 days ago

Good to know. I wonder how ~75 years of parents prevented their small children from losing their remotes on the regular. 🤔

by Anonymous 5 days ago

They didn't, people lost them all the time. However they always had the option to just, press a button on the TV so it wasn't a big deal. It's only been the last few years that tvs have been made without any buttons at all, so losing the remote makes the tv useless.

by Ciaraflatley 5 days ago

The backup option these days is your phone/tablet. My tv might have buttons on it, but I've never needed to use them.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Except a tv. Which by basic definition is a screen with a wireless remote control that you can use from the couch.

by Dlueilwitz 5 days ago

Not when I was young (in the 1970s).

by ChemistryKey 5 days ago

Ok Boomer.

by Dlueilwitz 5 days ago

Pretty sure if he was young in the 70s, he's Gen X.

by Forsaken_Reason_337 5 days ago

Correct, born in 1967.

by ChemistryKey 5 days ago

Do they not? Most have it on the back, mine's from 2022. Is this a 2025 upgrade?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

My Moms current tv in the living room does not and its from 2019...

by Anonymous 5 days ago

my tcl tv doesnt have them. ive looked multiple times and im a tech junkie

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Not even the little power button underneath/on the back right hand side? Mine has that, one button for everything.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Checked the manual? Not that I don't believe you, but I haven't seen a TV that doesn't have buttons, even if they are hidden and inconvenient

by nicolasadriana 5 days ago

I'm pretty sure my 2018 Bravia has buttons on the right side.

by Forsaken_Reason_337 5 days ago

Oh damn, that sucks. Guess I'm with OP on this one.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

My remote never leaves the house or the radius of the couch so it's impossible to lose. I can also use my phone as a remote on most TV's, streaming boxes, etc. surround sound units have lots of buttons.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

I imagine you don't have children.

by Impossible-Garlic673 5 days ago

What is it with kids and TV remotes? All these toys and they take the boring remote. Even my 9 month old is obsessed with it.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

This. My remote isn't going to magically vanish.

by Itchy-Influence777 5 days ago

Ours has been missing since 8 months ago. It does from time to time and reappears out of nowhere.

by Julian46 5 days ago

This is not normal. Do you have a poltergeist

by grayson97 5 days ago

My toddler is world champion at making things 'magically vanish'

by Anonymous 5 days ago

I envy your ability to keep track of things. If something doesn't have an AirTag attached to it it's temporary and will eventually be lost. Zero exceptions.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

I don't think I've seen a TV that doesn't. I've seen plenty of TV users that don't know they're there though. That fact alone tells any person making TVs that they're not worth the effort to put in. I'd still prefer it, but that's how feedback works.

by rebekah97 5 days ago

I've owned several TVs throughout my life, and I have never lost a remote. If anything, I have more remotes than devices in my home...

by Emergency_Revenue430 5 days ago

"Can't throw this remote out, I'm not sure what it goes to and I might still need it!" Same for cords. I'm pretty sure I have an entire drawer full of "miscellaneous electronics accessories" that I will never actually use again, but can't bring myself to throw out.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Until the apocalypse comes. And we have to resort back to IEC 169-2. Then I will be king.

by Emergency_Revenue430 5 days ago

Counter point. Don't buy a TV that doesn't have buttons on it, they exist

by Puzzled_Map5879 5 days ago

Is your house that messy that you lose your remote on the regular? We just put the remotes on our coffee table, and they're always there the next day.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Must not have kids.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Or couches with ridiculous remote control swallowing cushions.

by No-Vegetable-649 5 days ago

The fact that you think cats and kids are the same amount of trouble is telling

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Even as a kitten the cat never even came close to the kid, lol. Worst it does is hunt for my toes at 4AM or appropriate some item you don't want moved as a toy. Even at 10 my kid is more trouble.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

The trouble is actually putting it back on the coffe table when I'm done with it. I've left my remote in the fridge at least a dozen times. Or thrown it away by mistake. Or left it outside. Put it in my pocket and taken it to work. The list can go on.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

That's a unique problem.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

You obviously don't have kids... I keep a spare remote in my dresser for when I wanna watch TV in my living room. If the kids lose their remote, then no TV until they find it

by Purple-Use 5 days ago

You should teach your kids to put things back where they belong. Like, why do y'all think you can't teach kids things? That's your whole job as a parent.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Look who suddenly doesn't believe in teaching anymore 🤡

by Ismael93 5 days ago

Only a clown would think that children and cats are taught the same way. King clown level 👑🤡🫵

by Ismael93 5 days ago

Thinking that kids can't learn is king clown level.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Agreed, that's how you got your crown.

by Ismael93 5 days ago

It's okay to lighten up.

by Technical_Onion_8712 5 days ago

Your 2 year old shouldn't have access to the remote, imo.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

You're just wanting to argue and be right at this point. Take care stranger.

by Purple-Use 5 days ago

Put your remote somewhere your kid can't get it, stranger.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Okay. As if I hadn't tried that before. But you're missing what I said earlier. I have my own, hidden away. So I don't really care what happens to that other remote. That's my oldest responsibility. She does good with her chores, doesn't mean the other 2 younger than her don't make things difficult.

by Purple-Use 5 days ago

Once you have kids, you'll understand that if they want something. They will find a way to get it. It doesn't matter where it is

by Purple-Use 5 days ago

I'm 41. I'm not having kids.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Tbh, I don't blame you. Kids are a nightmare. But also explains why you're so condescending. You actually have no idea what you're talking about.

by Purple-Use 5 days ago

isn't there a joystick at the back of Samsung tvs still ?

by Anonymous 5 days ago

My tv is from 2009 (I know, I know) and it has buttons on it.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Did you lose your remote? ;) I agree with you btw

by Recent_Pirate_4280 5 days ago

Totally agree

by Anonymous 5 days ago

My tv has all the buttons it needs, they're just tucked into the side.

by Anonymous 5 days ago

Makes me miss the days of having an IR blaster on cell phones and the PSP.

by Waino99 4 days ago

I hope this is a wildly popular opinion… and if not, let's make it so.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

This is not unpopular, this is common sense.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I have a VCR with a VHS tape I want but I simply couldn't find an eject button on the damn thing. I could just be stupid but it seems ridiculous.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

This cannot be an unpopular opinion. I guess with manufacturers grr.. My current TV has zero buttons and the kids lost the remote the other day. No TV for three days until it was found

by DueSeaworthiness8179 4 days ago

They do. The problem is that those controls are minimal and are hidden from sight.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Mine has buttons on the back but there's also apps you can use to have your phone act as a remote. Having buttons is ideal though obviously. But also nobody is making you buy a tv that doesn't have buttons. Plenty of them do.

by Bartholome35 4 days ago

this TV you spoke of that doesn't have a button, is it in the room with us now? can you at least tell us the brand so that we can be sure that one exists?

by KoalaInteresting2275 4 days ago

Most of them have a remote app I think that you can just control from your phone just in case

by Anonymous 4 days ago

On the other hand, I wish PC monitors had remotes. Some do but very rare.

by Schimmelcolby 4 days ago

They do on the back tho

by Anonymous 4 days ago
