For my grade 8 graduation, we literally spent half a day practicing handshakes with our teacher critiquing us and telling us how important a proper handshake is. Used the term "dead fish" a lot and criticized the boys if we weren't firm enough And after all of that, when I went to shake my principals hand, he wrapped his hand around my fingers and squeezed before I had a chance to grab his palm.

A handshake is a bit More formal but you get a better judge of character. It's like strong eye contact. Handshakes are just more personal. If I'm seeing a friend off or someone I respect I want a handshake.

I've never liked handshakes. Even worse are hugs. Fist bump is the only greeting I accept. Recently on a family meeting I used it for everyone. 16, 50, 80 years old. No exceptions.
