+64 There's no need of committed relationships in a interdependent society, amirite?

Having a committed relationship is a choice because you decide that you want to share your life with that specific person, it shouldn't be seen as a need

The interdependence found in those cultures is far more over known than the reality. People in those cultures are still not going to go out on a limb to help you out of a real problem in most situations.

It's a choice. Feel like belonging with someone is just a bonus to it all.

Ye, that's why i said it as a "need"… in Vietnam, people might feel obligated to marry someone

Look around you - does what you see look like a functioning society?

Ultimately people do what they are driven to do, and when it comes to romantic/sexual relationships it's really just one of those things that we're wired to want. What form that takes is largely cultural, as proven by the difference of how it presents even across the largely culturally homogenized world, and the forms it took in extinct cultures when the world was "larger". What is consistently shown, at least, is that people desire it. If it doesn't make sense when held up against how society functions it doesn't mean that the impulse doesn't make sense-- it means that the society is not adequately mirroring human values.

...I'm sorry, did you just imply that people in Vietnam don't get married? The first thing that wikipedia says about traditional weddings is that they're one of the most important ceremonies in Vietnamese culture?
