Non-native speakers are the best language teachers, amirite?

Ehh, depends. People who've become fluent in L2 would certainly be better at identifying things like L1 interference (for example when you use the learning language's vocab but ordered using the first languages grammar) than a native L2 speaker who doesn't even know L1. But as for teaching methods, that's something teachers can train and learn for, there's no inherent benefit to non-native speaker's pedagogy over a native's, in fact a native L2 speaker could very well come from a culture with better researched and more informed teaching practices. I also object to the intermediate levels being more valuably taught by L2 native speakers. Lots of international business is conducted in English. If you're a Laotian learning English so you can trade with people from Korea, it may benefit you more to learn English from a Korean, so you learn to listen and mimic their accents, common phrases, etc…

Wow I like this Absolutely agree for grammar lessons Disagree for pronunciation unless they speak at a fluent/native level, then I would also agree
