that's fair, that's how I think about it too, also, most language learning apps are too visual, which sucks for me as a blind guy.

I had a streak going on duolingo that I didn't wanna let end so I would do lessons just to keep my streak but after a year I let it end. I wasn't learning anything and it was just annoying me with all the notifications

There's people with 1,000 say streaks who still can't order coffee

by wilford83 11 hours ago

Because there's people out there with 1000 day streaks who despite not being at A2 level continue with it. The definition of insanity of all that.

I see. Those people are not very intelligent anyways. I saw somebody who got high streaks with.... her mother tongue. Dopamine addiction is a bad thing and companies like Duolingo don't refrain from abusing it.

Yeah you've really nailed it. I think the app started in the right place but being a publicly traded company and all it has just 1 goal now, and the goal isn't teaching in the most effective way possible. That's why I would never IPO my app. The incentives are not aligned.

If you look into Abyss, Abyss looks into you. The more you focus on making money, the more you forget why you started making money in the first place. Thanks capitalism!
