+43 Music festivals aren't about music—they're overpriced influencer playgrounds. amirite?

you do know that other fests besides coachella exist, right? this opinion pretty much only fits that festival. there are so many alternative/EDM/heavy metal "festivals" that are music and community based (and dont take place in the dust or heat)

..... Have you ever been to one? Because you don't really seem to grasp the point of them. The people I meet at music festivals tend to be incredibly passionate about the artists there. Also, you're not paying ~400$ for one concert... You're paying to see like ~20 artists over the course of a weekend. So on a per musician basis it is actually cheaper. Also, a music festival is more of a vacation than a concert anyway. People take pictures and goof around on vacation. Embracing the dirt and grime is part of the fun. It's like going for a difficult hike... It kinda sucks in the moment when you're uncomfortable but you're always so glad you did it when you're done. You sound like a wet blanket.

I haven't been to one in over a decade, but I used to have a blast at Bonnaroo. See a bunch of great concerts, camp, hang out with like minded people, and do lots of drugs. What's not to like?

I mean I guess that could be the case, but the way I see it just isn't that. Usually there is a pretty good line up and you get to spend all day hanging out and listening to music with a bunch of people who are into the same music you are. Sure the expensive food and whatnot isn't great, but you go to be amongst "your people" and hear a lot of music.

Crazy, the exact same thing happens in Brazil. I remember when rock concerts were filled with disgusting people, including fat masculine women who would chug warm beer from a plastic cup like a neanderthal. Now there are these extremely hot "gothic" girls with very revealing outfits and stuff you wouldn't see ten years ago. Everything looks so manufactured and artifficial now. I glad I live in a form of bubble and don't have to deal with this, but I'll be attending a GNR concert in a month and I'm sure it will be filled with these people, mostly girls, who think GNR is a brand.

Just because Coachella is trash doesn't mean they all are.

Go to local festivals. Like even though edc is kinda like that, people absolutely vibe to the music all thr time. I guarantee you people who go to igloofest aren't going there for the vibes. Not in 0 degree weather

Well yes. Someone like you who has only ever seen musical festivals portrayed on social media will assume that's the only reason people are there.

No one is paying 400+ bucks to actually listen to music when they could see the same artist at a normal venue for like 1/4 the price. Maybe if you only wanted to see one single artist, and even then, who knows if you can get a decent seat at a normal venue for $100.
