+67 "Eruption" (Van Halen) is a crappy solo, amirite?

This. I think most guitar players can do the same thing with enough practice, but having the creativity to make something no one has heard before is a lot harder than watching then copying somebody else. I bring that up every time some online know it all says Hendrix was "not that good". Most of his stuff is dam hard to play properly though so I don't even know how they can say that. If you don't enjoy his music that is different though.

Wasn't it also just a warm up routine Eddie did often that they just recorded and put on the album basically?

Yes

He doesn't do anything on it that Satriani, Steve Howe, Holdsworth, Michael Angelo Batio, or Pat Metheny already did. This is a hilarious take given that Satriani and MAB didn't have an album out until 1986 and after 1985 respectively.

Maybe people praise it because they like it, instead of because they're pain in the ass music nerds who think you need an airtight legal case to justify thinking highly of a piece of art

It's not really supposed to be a solo-solo, it's supposed to be like a wild cadenza, an exposition. You see that all the time in music. It serves that function perfectly. If you want to talk about an aimless EVH solo, that would be "beat it" lol. Zero arc and then a deus ex machina ending.
