People should have to pass a lie detector test before getting married, amirite?
by Anonymous6 days ago
Well for one thing. Polygraph are no longer seen as reliable. They're easy to beat if you know what you are doing.

You do know polygraphs aren't actually lie detectors, right?

If you tell people this then the government can't use it against them /s

It's easy to answer the debt question. Before you get married you should ALWAYS do a financial audit with your spouse. And the rest are just stupid because if you are questioning your soon-to-be-spouses loyalty in any capacity then you have no business getting married.

If you're going into marriage with a lack of trust, that's not a marriage that's gonna work out.

You may as well insist they first have a palm reading and be given the go-ahead by a psychic.

Lie detectors dont really work that well.

Just stay single, life is so much easier when you do.

You know if you're just a little bit nervous you can instantly fail a lie detector test, even if you're telling the truth? My understanding of polygraph test is that it's based on your stress levels

This isn't about popular or unpopular; this is just dumb. Circumstances change and polygraph is not reliable.

How about this: If you have so little faith / such major trust issues, that you think your partner needs to take a lie detector test before you'll marry them… then you shouldn't be getting married. This feels along the lines of "paternity tests should be compulsory" (another common ‘unpopular opinion). Basically you want to accuse your s/o of something, but don't want to be the bad guy - so you want it to mandatory so the government can do the accusing for you.

It would also get your kid marked for life if they had any genetic issues.

I said disease not potential genetic issues. Knowing that you have 40% risk of breast cancer or HPV is not the same than having 100% of a lethal or degenerative genetic disease.

Knowing you have a high risk can make insurance companies more likely to deny you. There's no guarantee that protections for pre-existing conditions will stick around.

Just dont get married if it requires all that

People should have to pass a lie detector test before getting married Oh that would be cool! I'm not going to force this on anyone but I'm keen... Sit me in the chair and strap me to the polygraph.

You can do whatever you want. Why should your choices impact me?
by Anonymous5 days ago
I take it she got custody of the kids?

You do know that lie detectors are extremely unreliable and pretty much anyone can train to beat one in like, a week or so, right?
