sleeping beauty flopping out of her carriage was awesome.

Just rewatched it this weekend because I needed a laugh. The gingerbread man scene had me grinning ear to ear. It's perfection.

You need to watch more movies if you think it's one of the worst ever. lol

As great as Tolkein was as a writer, he did not know how to have fun. He was very conservative and strict on his views of what he considered good writing. He disliked DUNE, which remains one of my favorite sci-fi book series and he also disliked a lot of the writing in the Chronicles of Narnia despite being very good friends with CS Lewis.

You must work very hard to be this humorless. I mean, you likely need at least an hour each morning to really get yourself into a joyless tizzy. I'm amused at the JRR Tolkien reference.

Ironically, this made me laugh.

You sing yourself to sleep with Tom babidills songs that never came to reality in the RL films

You must be bored

No, I'm not watching Shrek.

Disagreements with this kind of high minded attitude towards fairy tales and children's animation is the reason why Dreamworks exists, and this attitude is also being directly lampooned in the movie. If you appreciate what the movie is mocking, well then yeah, you won't like it.

If you appreciate what the movie is mocking, well then yeah, you won't like it. Not true. I very much appreciate what those movies are mocking, still love those movies. They're are MANY out there capable of making fun of themselves and things they love. That's a natural part of humor.

I was trying to be charitable to OP. They are in notable company with their bad taste, at the very least.

the white bronco joke from shrek 2 is always hilarious. Also when the knights grind black pepper into donkeys eyes kills me. The third and fourth fall off imho but the first 2 are amazing

I was just looking up scenes from Shrek 2 because I honestly don't remember it beyond Puss in Boots. I might have to watch it again.

Shrek 2 is a genuine masterpiece of cinema. Shame on you.

Shrek 2 is considered to be a perfect sequel

Yup. Definitely unpopular. I didn't even make it past the first paragraph

Bait used to be believable

Idk fairy tales are pretty dark when you look into them. Sherk was refreshing at a time of too much Disney moralizing
by Anonymous1 week ago
Shrek was a funny movie and fresh for its time but you could argue its responsible for irreverent humour becoming too common of a trend Western animated movies since. Every Disney movie has to poke fun of itself in some way because they're apparently afraid of getting Shreked.

Thank you! Shrek is a masterclass in professional pettiness

I think it's popular because it advanced tech.

That's a big part of it. It was a marvel for the time. Super exciting. Animators were pushing beyond what Toy Story did.

You know it's bad when the best film in the series is a sequel to an almost forgotten spin off. I have nostalgia for the first 2, the third is the worst. 4 should've been 3.

Wow, the hivemind did not like this unpopular opinion. Well done, Landscape.

I have only seen the first one. I would agree it's not the funniest thing in the world. But the characters are charming and the soundtrack is a fun time capsule for those nostalgic for the early 2000s. The art style for whatever reason has been popular for memes, and I can see why...the characters are expressive and funny looking. Also there are a few legitimately great jokes that make it memorable.
