ALL roles in film/TV should be played by adults. We should abolish child actors completely, amirite?

I am making this exact face.

The perfect gif for this. Says so much.

I get the sentiment. The problem is there are many children who enjoy performing, acting, dancing, singing, etc. So, if the passion is genuinely there who is to take that away from them?

I mean, there are plenty of community venues that don't have a big profit motive and could be formative. When corporations get involved, people have a bigger responsibility to ensure a safe working environment—a responsibility that they often fail to bear, sadly.

True! Like I said, I get the sentiment. I'm not saying we shouldn't protect them, but not by taking away the opportunity to be in bigger stuff entirely. Obviously, that's in a perfect world, and big soulless corporations are not exactly congruent with that… hopefully we find some middle ground or maybe pass some legislation that further protects them.

I get why, but I don't think a 18 year old can play a good 4 year old. I'm already again adults playing teen characters as well I do agree it's absolutely terrible for the children, but maybe the system should be fixed instead of removing them

I will say when they made that Joan Jett movie, they cast a 15 year old as her lover, and had to have a body double for sex scenes. I mean they really couldn't have gotten someone 18 for that part?

no.

I get the argument for history of the industry reasons but I also think it is kinda bad for storytelling given people childhood are usually pretty important moments in the grand scheme of things seem silly to try to cut back on that. I also the de-ageing tech is a horrible argument because it is really distracting because it's exclusively used for people who were already famous for like 20 plus years agoand I would argue it has only been used effectively in sci/fantasy films where it's being odd and surreal is acknowledged(Benjamin button, Gemini man, blade runner 2049).

cast people with Dwarfism for the roles Absolutely do not do that oh my god. Like I'm in favor of stronger protections for kids in acting (although I believe that there's ways to let them act without it being exploitative) but you can't just suggest the infantilization of people with dwarfism like that's somehow a better option. Also, like: no kids in acting means no kids in Sesame Street, no live action children's shows with actual children, no kids seeing themselves on educational programs. What you actually need is more oversight and laws about who gets control over money made by child actors, not no kids onscreen ever.
