+63 Uk - I kinda like seeing the English flags everywhere. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It is a shame that our own flag is seen by many as racist. I know the reasons why it is, but it's still a shame. Most other countries are able to fly theirs with pride, as you should be able to.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Take it back from the racists then. They stole it from the people who could be proud.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm a bit busy today mate, can I get on it tomorrow?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Exactly. The people putting the flags up and painting crosses on roundabouts, churches and war memorials are not doing it because they love their community and want it to progress.

by Due-Internet 1 day ago

They are doing it because they love their country. It's changing and becoming unrecognizable to them, not just mass immigration, but the censorship laws being passed as well. They see a lack of progress. You don't think any of their concerns are valid?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

No. Their views differ from mine and are therefore wrong and invalid. Also fascism. /s

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Personally I feel no shame in enjoying/ flying the flag however I do see the argument how do you fly the flag without racists thinking your with them and racism victims thinking your against them.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The flag itself isn't seen as racist. It's the assumed reasons for putting them up that are seen as racist.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

the Union Jack is seen as more racist, imo. It's not the flag of England that dominated the world as the British Empire.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Outside of the UK maybe but within the UK it's the English flag seen as racist

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Weren't there riots in Essex? The flags are tacky and are associated with a certain type of person I like to think most wouldn't want to be seen as

by jerryhodkiewicz 1 day ago

"There's people with absolutely no agenda" is definitely not something you should say. Especially when you immediately follow it up with a blatant agenda. That just makes me feel like maybe you aren't really paying attention.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I don't It's tacky All the recently put up flags have been put up simply for hateful reasons, that alone ruins them

by ScheduleAfter9216 1 day ago

the funniest thing is all the flags are in places where there are basically 0 immigrants anyway.

by Awkward_Lab6899 1 day ago

Not much good comes from ardent nationalism. People should not love and feel proud of their country and its government, they should maintain a realistic appreciation of its pros and cons and keep their eye on that balance because there is always the very real danger it will shift for the worse. Nationalist fervour being one such thing that can sweep people up and be a catalyst for changes for the worse

by quinteneichmann 1 day ago

Definitely agree, but I'd like to comparison. US nationalism is way different than European ones. European nationalism imo is "better" because they actually have had an identity and heritage for hundreds of years something the USA has not. No problem with European nationalism basically saying our country our culture and others who come to our country should conform. I don't agree with the USA doing it bc the USA is a country of immigrants and doesn't really have a shared culture in all 50 states

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Nationalism has always felt weird to me. I've always felt such little attachment to my country. Like I don't care much about my "fellow countrymen" over someone living in another country. And I certainly don't care about the piece of land by itself.

by Dapper-Research5143 1 day ago

You don't seem to feel much of anything

by geovanygaylord 1 day ago

When the people immigrating are trying to replace your culture you have a duty to be a nationalist

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Oh shut up, the world doesn't actually revolve around you. Please explain how people emigrating are trying to take your culture?

by Ok-Maize 1 day ago

What culture

by xschroeder 1 day ago

Kind of yes. If everyone is aloof to their country and culture, but others are not aloof to their own country and culture then they come to yours with their passion towards their own… the outcome is obvious.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Culture changes all the time. Go back 400 years and you think your culture is unchanged from then?

by Dapper-Research5143 1 day ago

Have you considered that not wanting your people to die out is rude? We need more shawarma stores on every street corner.

by geovanygaylord 1 day ago

They're not dying out.

by Dapper-Research5143 1 day ago

Welcome to the US!

by Pale_Cartoonist_6121 1 day ago

It's been co-opted by the racists unfortunately, there's nothing wholesome or nice about them being everywhere.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Hi, American checking in here to remind you this is how it started with us.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

i live in the US and i often see mini coopers with UK flag pattern rear lights and uk flag paint

by Existing_Rub 1 day ago

It's terrible. I see the St. George's as nothing but a symbolism of racism, the entire meaning behind them doing it wasn't patriotism, it was xenophobia and racism. I don't believe anyone doing it doesn't have a agenda or is doing it "for patriotism" they're all idiots and should spend more time being better people rather than running round at midnight putting up flags in the name of hate.

by Ok-Maize 1 day ago

That's kinda on you honestly. Just because some racists like to use it doesn't override 1000 years of history.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

No, not really, that's on them. If you start using something as a symbol of hate then that's what it's recognised as. No one's using it for history or patriotism now are they

by Ok-Maize 1 day ago

This guy knows ^

by Anonymous 1 day ago

1000 years of brutally racist and colonialist history?

by xschroeder 1 day ago

As an immigrant here, I'd really appreciate if people who just want to show pride in their community would get really into Mr. Blobby, the music of XTC, or some other symbol that doesn't force me to play "racist, going to a cricket match, or a boneheaded attempt to try to reclaim a symbol that's beyond hope"

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The flag is not inherently racist. Telling people in a country they shouldn't be flying their own flag is why these groups of people are getting larger and larger. Yes its being mainly done by racists but it shouldn't override the meaning behind a whole country's flag. An immigrant telling a whole country they should be ashamed of their flag is what's enraging these people.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Look, people can do what they want, but if I see somebody with that flag, I'm crossing the street to get away from them. It's just basic self-preservation

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Unfortunately in the current context, I can't enjoy seeing the flag because of the kind of people who are putting it up - the flag itself is fine, but the message being put behind it ruins it

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If anyone is saying they're doing it for patriotism, to those folk it normally means because they want England for the English and promote English values because they're better than other people's belief You can be patriot but until we get a proper well meaning movement that fights it with the Union Flag primarily, the flag will normally have dodgy connotations Really, I think counter protestors like myself need to get more organised with using the British Flag as a flag of unity

by Euphoric-Duty1443 1 day ago

Yeah I completely agree. My gf who doesn't go online much has been seeing the flags and saying how nice it is with zero understanding of the reasoning behind why they're being put up and it's cute.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The only time I like seeing the flag everywhere recently is during the World Cup or Euros
