Comparison is the theif of joy, but joy isn't always the goal. amirite?

Yeah, I don't think this saying is usually used in regard to survival situations and starving people though... If your basic needs are being met, then joy should be the goal.

Joy or not, comparing yourself to others in any way is usually a bad idea, plain and simple. If you're looking for joy you won't find it that way and if you're looking for a way out of your misery you still won't find it that way and it will only lead to more misery.

Except the upper boundary of how many comparisons you are making yourself against is limitless. There are always more people than everyone you've ever met. And if you keep that on with an ever-scaling quantity of sample size for that comparison, you will only exhaust yourself with no one but yourself to blame.

Okay. Not an unpopular opinion. Also: I before E, except after C, or when sounding like A, as in "neighbor" or "weigh."

What a weird rule

Well put! But I think this opinion is just an intentional misapplication of the term. Idioms aren't supposed to carry watertight logic across infinite contexts lol
