+74 Chip companies weren't trying to deceive us with big bags full of air, amirite?

They could put the air in the bag to prevent breakage and still fill the bags more than they do. If the off-brands can do it, so can Lays.

This isn't an opinion so much as a fact. The air was always there to cushion the chips.

The pile of crumb dust at the end is my favorite part tho

The "air" is actually nitrogen and is used because it remains sterile and doesn't promote bacterial growth. If it was just air, then your chips would always be stale and nasty. It does work to also prevent the chips from being crushed into pieces.

Wild that people complained so much about "paying for air" that companies actually listened and now we're all eating chip dust. The air was the cushion, not a scam.

The nitrogen in there keeps them from turning stale and acts as a cushion so that they don't all turn to crumbs

Nobody reads how many ounces they're buying. So air must be a ripoff.
