+81 The vast majority of rules are in place to keep dumb people safe. amirite?

And the irony is that it's usually the smart ones who follow the rules more.

And because of this, if OSHA were abolished the average IQ in the US would go up significantly in a single generation.

While believing more than ever in evolution, we seem more and more determined to thwart it.

Nice use of the word thwart.

Ehh, simple word. 3/5

Yeah, anyone who watched Phineas and Ferb will know it, just like aglet

Eugenicists love this one simple trick!

I have no data on the validity of that assertion either way, but once at a construction gig several of my colleagues were almost killed by decisions by our dumbass manager. They all lived, but one almost completely severed their thumb. If OSHA were abolished, that manager can only die once, but he could easily spend the rest of his working years killing dozens good men & women through no fault of their own.

The hope is that the dumb ones just follow what the rest of us are doing, I used to think it works until the covid pandemic.

A lot of rules are in place to keep us safe from dumb people

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Ummm, no. Many rules are there to keep those safe that cant be expected to know better. Workers at heavy machinery, drivers driving curvy roads, people signing contracts and normal people crossing a bridge for example. Most people arent expected to know if a bridge is safe. The rules that we can see are backed by rules that we have never heard of. Speed limits are a good example. You are only allowed to drive 50kmh, but the engineer that designed that road had to follow many rules which should guarantee that that road is pretty safe, even when conditions are bad. Dumb people may benefit a little bit more though

Ah yes. His final TikTok. So moving.

Many of the rules we have were created because common sense failed. Speed limits on roads are a good thing, but too many drivers interpret them as "drive at this speed in all vehicles in all conditions", so they're set lower than they need to be.

I mean, traffic rules for example are there to keep everyone safe, not just dumb people. It doesn't matter how smart you are, you'll still die if a car hits you while you cross the road.

I'd say they are there to keep companies safe from dumb people with lawyers.

by Key-Adhesiveness5835 3 days ago

Depends what you mean by that. Healthcare has so many laws no one could ever read them all in a lifetime. You arnt expected to know why or how they keep you safe but they do. From people running scams or from people just not caring.

As national park rangers say, "there is a considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists".

Or to protect companies from lawsuits, ...from stupid people.

For making investments yes. There are a lot of rules that say if you cannot afford this you shouldn't do this because you will be broke. Otherwise it's a free market and dumb people are easy targets. Like anything in the Trump Store.
