+85 Wearing a suit and tie or a fancy dress is just rich people cosplay. We should not be emulating the people holding the rest of society back. amirite?

by leschtrace 4 days ago

interesting take. Personally, I don't think wearing a suit and a tie is a rich people cosplay

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Okay I'll just go to my sister's wedding dressed as Spider-Man instead.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Costume weddings are incredibly fun and The kids would love it.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

Maybe try therapy?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Yeah man because wearing sweatpants all the time is really sticking it to the rich. Do you hear yourself?

by DistributionWaste 4 days ago

I swear some people took the whole "Maybe let's be less uptight about social etiquette" and have now decided that all social customs and norms are personal attacks and violations of their person. You're not being discriminated against because someone expects you to wear a suit. (as long as they aren't like, wanting someone from India to wear a suit instead of a kurta.) But Josh from Indiana is not being violated.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

It's not sticking it to them, it's just loving yourself

by Anonymous 4 days ago

You can live yourself in a suit and tie too you know

by ignaciochristia 4 days ago

It's much easier to love yourself when you're extra comfortable

14 year old woke kid who has to go to dress up to go to their cousins wedding

by No_You943 4 days ago

Look good feel good my guy.

by Due-Attorney 4 days ago

Yeah should I also sell my fixer upper because land ownership emulates wealthy people? Just want to make sure I'm sticking it to the man proper.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Yes.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

Do you mean on a day to day basis or are you saying a middle class person shouldn't wear a suit to a wedding?

by Pfefferpatricia 4 days ago

So also having a job holds back people who are unemployed?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

the ultra wealthy are holding society back, not people who can afford a suit or dress lol

by SignificantCut 4 days ago

Yes, wear a potato sack or other rags bro

by Marvinalice 4 days ago

I like how this implies the wealthy are CONSTANTLY only ever in suit and tie or fancy dresses.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Or even primarily are when making public appearances. Who associates Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, or Elon Musk with wearing suits? People of all social classes wear suits in formal settings, but nowadays rich person cosplay would be messy hair and a t-shirt or a black turtleneck, and the step down from the ultra rich to everyday rich still isn't a suit, it's a fleece pullover.

by Weird-Investment 4 days ago

I am an unboxed donut.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

Go outside. Also, you're not emulating them. You're just putting on nice clothes.

by Ok-Independence-4111 4 days ago

Some people like suits and fancy dresses. It's not that deep.

by buckridgeisabel 4 days ago

What? I came from a place where how you dress is how you respect yourself and the people around you.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Brother if I go to court on the daily not in a suit and tie, the judge will not pleased.

by Prestigious_Bass 4 days ago

A suit and tie isn't rich people cosplay. You can get them for not much money. You can also spend a fortune on them, of course.

by SpiritualSet 4 days ago

Because people need to look professional at their jobs? or are you talking about day to day use. Because most people don't wear fancy clothes. Those are reserved for going to events they are going to professional environments which they obviously need to look professional at. Plus keeping a clean suit / outfit shows employers that you actually put a once of effort into your appearance so you'll probably put a once of effort into your job.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

You know, sometimes when you have a job, they have a thing called a "Dress Code" and that may require you to wear a suit and tie at times...

by Subject_Director 4 days ago

This is a dumb as hell take.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

It's an unpopular opinion.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

No its just stupid.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Muh class war.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Don't agree with OP but they've done great job at presenting a genuinely unpopular opinion. I feel the opposite, I'd love to wear a suit more.

by Hollymante 4 days ago

Thanks for getting it.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

This is unpopular opinions, not dumb opinions.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Dude. I'm trying to get into that wealthy class. Don't shut that door man. A bunch of us are trying to get in.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I will never wear a tie around my neck! I didn't even wear one at my wedding! I wouldn't wear it in court and I definitely wouldn't wear it to any function, no matter what!

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Obvious bait is obvious.

by AffectionatePage 4 days ago

I don't love polo shirts, but I love suits. Does that make me a dirty bootlicker?

by Savings-Lavishness79 4 days ago

Depends on who you're trying to impress.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

Fellas', am I being a class traitor by wearing a nice, reasonably priced suit?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

There's opinions then there's just objectively wrong views.

by Academic-Article 4 days ago

More of an objectively wrong view. Suits are standard formal attire. Insinuating that common folk have no need for formality in dress reinforces the idea that poor people are uncivilized and unkempt.

by Academic-Article 4 days ago

Or... Hear me out... an unpopular opinion.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

Sometimes people just want to look like they're not struggling to make rent. What's the harm in choosing specific clothes to help their confidence?

by Maurinegoldner 4 days ago

It's obvious my opinion is unpopular, but I have hope for a world where people won't be judged by what they're wearing but by their actions. Does saying something in a suit change the meaning of anything you say? My argument is no, but we've been conditioned to look down upon people for looking poor.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

People don't like your opinion because it sounds ridiculous. Not wearing a suit is not sticking to the big man at all. And no, I don't care what anyone is wearing but if they say something stupid I'm going to call them an ejit. Also, most people haven't been conditioned to look down on others for their clothing, unless you're talking about wannabe 2000's mean girls or something. If you go outside, a lot of people are actually quite nice.

by Maurinegoldner 4 days ago

Nice people judge too. Just not out loud.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

What you don't know can't hurt you, I guess. Nothing you can do about it anyway. ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

by Maurinegoldner 4 days ago

It's nice to look good and show dignity and respect the special occasion so easy on the eat the rich mentality

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I don't feel any different based on what I'm wearing.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

And that's my take. Someone came along a long time ago and decided that a Suit and Tie was the proper thing to wear because it makes you look respectable. I think they were wrong, and expensive suits have turned into a status symbol. Times have changed, and this is one of those "clinging to the old ways" things that should have been abandoned a long time ago.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

Yet won't cause it's something more than just your anti rich sentiment, we dress to show respect in weddings, funerals etc people do look nice in them. I'm sorry you feel that way but reality is very different

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Maybe it is possible to be too woke after all. Sometimes it's fun to look fly. It's not that deep.

by NebulaOtherwise 4 days ago

I never said dressing to look good was bad. I just said wearing a suit and tie to pretend you are in a higher class is something you shouldn't do.

by leschtrace 4 days ago

Seek help

by hhand 4 days ago

Eh...I guess I CAN agree with this, since I want to wear something other than a suit and tie at a formal events. But I don't think I can agree with the reasoning here.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Too many people do not have the necessary self-discipline or the desire to not emulate financially successful people. Some people just imitate because that's what their mind tells them to do. Some people imitate because it's the path of least resistance - they just blend in. Are there people emulate the habits of people they deem are successful in the hope that they too will be successful. Some clever people emulate the dress of other people as a disguise.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

My point exactly. People who are doing better than you have told you how to dress properly, and you bought into it hook line and sinker. It's time to break down societal norms and start judging people on who they are, not how they're dressed.

by leschtrace 3 days ago

You are literally judging people based on how they dress. If you see me in a suit, you instantly assume I'm some gullible rube who is being tricked by "rich people" to try and emulate them, even though they are my enemy and will never accept me. In reality, I just like wearing a suit sometimes.

by Faycarlie 3 days ago

I would say it was a very unpopular opinion.

by leschtrace 3 days ago
