And 100% think they are on the more intelligent side

Prove it

A common trapping in statistics is to assume that the line falls neatly on half of the population when discussing averages.

by AdShot6305 19 hours ago

This statement has nothing to do with averages. All the statement implies is that a median exists, which it does.

by Radiant-Cook 19 hours ago

Yeah, but what about the half that can't read this

by Ernserwinfield 19 hours ago

That's not how averages work, that's medians

by Scared-Brush1076 18 hours ago

I don't think this has to get that deep.

by Radiant_Finding 18 hours ago

They didn't say half the people reading this are dumber than the average person, they said they are dumber than the other half (of the people who read this). Which is true as long as you can split them into a dumb half and a smart half.

Do you have a better measure?

by ItchyProject1646 17 hours ago

Not necessarily true. You're assuming intelligence is a scalar quantity that can be ranked in a simple ordering. It's more likely that intelligence is a multidimensional quantity in which case no such simple ranking exists.

It's mostly likely intelligence follows a normal distribution and 65% of people are very similar and 13% are a whole standard deviation below and above normal.
