Sports fans dont really care about the players wellbeing, amirite?
by Anonymous2 days ago
While this is all true I am not sure it's an unpopular opinion tbh. Most football fans I know don't claim to care about the players' well being. I mean they wouldn't wish anything bad upon them or anything but at the end of the day it's a bunch of dudes talking each other at high speeds head first. Similar to UFC, the sport itself is detrimental to the competitor's well being. Uncomfortable truth about CTE is that eliminating the possibility of it would require either drastic changes to how certain sports are played, or abandoning certain sports altogether due to high risk.

I agree. If fans were concerned about players as human beings, they wouldn't support American football as a sport. There's nothing that can be done to make it safe. It's a brutal activity.

The players dont care. There's studies on players from like the 1970s back when they barely made any money and they almost all said they'd do it again if they had the choice despite all their injuries. These arent slaves being forced to go get brain damage they're people doing what they love

I completely agree, they care about who scores the coolest moves at the highest motric cost.

Yeah that's why everyone including the opposing team fans cheer when someone gets up from an injury okay.

Unless you're a Toronto Raptors fan and you erupt in cheers when you realized the opponents player is visibly injured and unable to play.

Lol that's because they know the game can continue, not that they know the injured player isn't going to suffer for the rest of their life. They paid for that ticket!

Definitely not. No one wants Clint Malarchuk to bleed out on the ice in front of their eyes. No one wants to know they just watched someone die or get paralyzed. No one wanted to see Owen Hart fall from the ceiling and die.
