Teaching prevention is not the same thing as blaming the victim, amirite?

You can go to a frat party and not drink but also.. the safe option in that circumstance is to go with friends you trust and stick together (this is good advice regardless of gender), not to say "well [x] demographic shouldn't be there"

being proactive means taking a self defense class, carrying mase, being observant of your surroundings. "avoiding frat parties" implies that by going to a frat party you are inviting assault, that it is inevitable. that is not an accurate or appropriate assessment of risk. it centers responsibility on the wrong party and is therefore victim blaming.

Exactly. Minimizing being a victim plays a role.

If you're a female student, that means avoiding frat parties where men will try to get you drunk so they can take advantage of you. This is victim blaming. You're basically telling women to sit in their rooms 24/7 instead of, you know, living their lives because men can't control themselves around us.

LMAO They basically did not do that, avoiding frat parties means living in your room 24/7 Professional victim hood is a virus

Why can't women go to frat parties? Because men will try to get us drunk and take advantage of us? That's blaming the women instead of the men.

This is victim blaming. No it isn't. I'm telling women that if they don't want to be assaulted, the smartest thing to do is to avoid situations where that's likely to happen. I'd love to just leave my backpack anywhere on campus unattended and not get anything stolen! In a perfect world, no one would steal. But, it is what it is. You gotta play the hand you're dealt. Also, I went through all of college (and graduate school) without ever going to frat party and don't think I missed out on anything fun. I did plenty of cycling around town...and even though it wouldn't be my fault if a reckless driver hit me, I still wore a helmet.

Women get assaulted at work. Women get assaulted in grocery stores. Women get assaulted all the time doing normal things. Should we avoid those things too? Why are we blaming the women?

If the university itself thinks frats are so bad that women should be advised to avoid their parties... it doesn't look like the frats should be approved by the uni anymore

It's great that you've acknowledged that men can't and that's not going to ever change. There will always be predators point blank.
