People hate them because consumerism. I don't think many people actually hate how they look.
by cassandrajerde22 hours ago
Plenty of people find them ugly. They're also gambling for kids.
by PotentialPie858722 hours ago
I definitely find them ugly. Like I legit don't understand how anyone likes them. BUT this is solidly in a "live and let live" category to me. You like them? Great! Have fun! I do some questionable things consumerism wise, too, so, no judgement from me. That said I was not aware they were gambling for kids? I might need more info on that — do they come from blind boxes or something? Since I don't like them I never looked into how to get one :D
by gflatley21 hours ago
Yeah they come in blind boxes
by Popular_Reporter21 hours ago
Ah, yeah, then I am against that part.
by gflatley21 hours ago
While proceeding to buy card pack Just joking
by Anonymous21 hours ago
Theyre not cute. And you cant compare them to beanie babies.
by Desperate_City382920 hours ago
Labubus are just consumerism trash. There really isnt any notable positives about them. But you could say the same thing about Beanie Babies, Pop Figurines, Pokemon Cards, Fidget Spinners, or any of the wild consumerist trends of the past. Sometimes, people just want to spend their hard earned money on crap.
by Anonymous20 hours ago
…do people forget about stockx..? You can buy it there for cheaper
by Strange-Flow19 hours ago
Sure, cheaper, if you consider spending even $20 on a cheaply made toy "cheap"
by Anonymous19 hours ago
It's like these type of people miss the actual point. They think everyone else also wants it. It's not about it being cheaper it's why buy something just to fit in
by Anonymous19 hours ago
It's like buying Digimon cards during the Pokémon era, people don't want the cheap copy.
by External-Handle19 hours ago
I grew up through the beanie baby fad, I know they are expensive garbage, but it is fun watching people lose their minds over them.
by Academic-Advance469419 hours ago
Yeah, if this was an unpopular opinion they wouldn't be popular to begin with.
by Anonymous18 hours ago
They're not that bad. They're not that cute or great either. I don't get why they are trendy.
by flossiemayer18 hours ago
I hate th consumerism and I hate how ugly it looks. I don't know why but eeeing one fills me with an unfathomable rage and I want to punch it
by Anonymous18 hours ago
It's just another thing people buy that will end up in a landfill. Like Funko pops, or dolls your grandmother's used to have, or whatever other useless nicknack people collect
by Bitter_Landscape18 hours ago
I don't mind how they look but definitely overrated because it's the trendy thing. And because it's trendy, demand is up and genuine supply is limited so now they're being camped for and scalped like pokemon cards. Disgusting.
by mckayla6617 hours ago
I didn't understand the hate until I went with someone shopping for labubus...
by North-Intention-450017 hours ago
I just like saying the word.
by Anonymous17 hours ago
They're cute, but they look like dollar store toys. Young people haven't experienced quality merchandise to be able to look at something cheaply made and the price and walk away.
by Equivalent-Bath16 hours ago
They get hate because of how they are sold, and for the insufferable way that people behave on the path to getting them lol. Not just because of their asthetics. I feel like this is very commonly understood.
by Catharinebeahan16 hours ago
There's definitely conversations to be had about things like fast fashion and trendy consumerism, and how things are discarded because of them, but I do agree that the Labubu themselves aren't really a/the problem. People like collecting things, and that's not a problem.
by Jolly_Border_140315 hours ago
Methed out furbies
by Anonymous15 hours ago
Lebubus aren't bad on their own but it's ridiculous consumerism. I have a friend who's spent over $1000 on these stupid plushies. It's ridiculous.
by Financial_Bear15 hours ago
I hate that they jave literslly no purpose but to sit on a shelf, and that the people who are buying them all up are going to eventually move on to the next trend and these are going to all end up sitting in landfills. Its the same issue with the Stanley Cup trend, buying clothes from Shein, and every other social media consumerist trend.
by OrganicRestaurant14 hours ago
this happens with literally any collectible.
by Anonymous14 hours ago
It has nothing to do with how they look and everything to do with how expensive they are and the fact that they will go on to do nothing but contribute to landfill.
