+69 We need to normalise women shaving their heads. amirite?

by New_Phone 11 hours ago

You should normalize not requiring a fashion trend to reach normie status before you do it. If you want to shave that dome, knock yourself out.

by Same_Engineering_684 11 hours ago

This. Just do what you want and live your best life. It's not a dress rehearsal.

Also this is how things become normalized. Normies can only dress "alt" today because of all of our emo & goth ancestors who bravely dealt with being spit on and barked at.

True trendsetters do not ask permission to set trends.

We need to normalize people realizing it's their body. People are gonna have opinions no matter what you do. At least enjoy yourself if people are gonna criticize you

I grew up in the '90s with Sinead O'Connor. I'm not gonna pretend that most women shaved their heads. I'm just gonna point out that plenty did and it wasn't an issue.

Some people can pull it off, some people can't. If a woman wants to and it looks good, hell yeah! Go for it!

by Anonymous 9 hours ago

Exactly. It's the same with men. If you have a good headshape it looks good. Obviously more men get forced into the decision but still

I personally wouldn't do it, but I'm all for normalizing it. I have a co-worker who has done this, and she looks great! Hair care can be such a pain. I don't enjoy it at all.

I agree with you. I've seen women look absolutely fabulous without hair. Just like some men who look better without hair. I'm one of those people who has super thick hair. But with age it's getting coarse and frizzy and I'm thinning out in spots. I wish I had the confidence to shave it. But my husband would not be a fan (I know this is an issue on its own) but also… I have a lot of bumps and lumps on my head. And I'd look like a potato.

I think a nice shaped head is just as good as having nice hair The problem is, you don't know if you have a ‘nice shaped head' until you've already committed to the deed and shaved your head. I've wanted to shave my head so many times in my life (I hate having long hair, and also hate having to regularly go get it cut to keep it short. Shaving seems like a nice solution). But I have no way of knowing how I'll actually look with a shaved head.

I (55 F) have been shaving my head every Summer for 15 years. I get tons of compliments! I encourage every woman to try it once in life.

by Lowedane 8 hours ago

I'm guessing you weren't alive in the 70s-80sor 90s.

I think it looks bad. I look at bald women like I look at fat men. It's none of my business and I respect it, but it definitely doesn't look good.

by Emmerichmarquis 7 hours ago

The fat men don't look good but some women can carry of the shaved head. Better with fine features though.

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

Women who look good with shaved head will always look much better with decent hair.

by Emmerichmarquis 7 hours ago

Not sure how else to do this since multiple celebrities have shaved their heads and it definitely didn't catch on. Women seem to like having hair, men seem to prefer women having hair.

No we dont

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

You don't need my permission to cut your hair, and you can't tell me what to think about your appearance.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

So... it is normalised in some places, I guess

I think it's unlikely to be normalized since it's simply an uncommon hairstyle for women and I find it unlikely that will ever change. For reference, I once buzzed off my hair following numerous bad dye jobs. I just hated how it looked buzzed, even though I didn't really encounter any stigma. So, I don't think it's really stigma holding women back. Many just don't like the style and it's a style that takes a very long time to grow out.

If I never see the word normalize again it'll be too soon

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

No we don't.

Anyone that watched Roald Dahl's witches as a kid in the 90s still posseses some trauma about women without hair. At least I do.

by Tight-Media-9539 4 hours ago

I mean everyone should do as they please. I for one dont find shaved heads attractive, but that is just my personal opinion. personally I also find very short/shaved heir very unfomfortable as i appreaciate that layer of insulation for my head.

If you want to look worse, all the power to you. However, its not on others to feed into a delusion that it looks good.

They've been saying this for the last 40 years.
