+87 Chicken and waffles don't elevate each other when paired together. amirite?

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I agree that they don't build on each other in any "greater than the whole," but the longer you've been alive and the more foods you have eaten over time, I think it certainly can be quite enjoyed as being different when you've pretty much established your entire palate and want something to mix things up. Sometimes putting weird things together works in unconventional ways. In all reality, the ingredients are not all that different than a basic chicken sandwich with a sweet sauce.

What's a potato waffle?

by General-Crab1046 3 days ago

I picture a chef squishing a potato in a waffle maker

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Very interesting, thanks!

by General-Crab1046 3 days ago

Amazing with eggs and bacon. Heck you can put them with most things really and it works

by Hopeful-Science 3 days ago

Because it's not a thing in Britian, and the idea of sweet waffles and fried chicken is a bit strange here (at least to those who hadn't heard if it before). Plus some folks would have potato waffles with a breakfast fry up instead of hash browns.

people put chilli on cinnamon rolls?

by dturner 3 days ago

It's apparently a thing in the midwest US. I definitely don't understand it. Seems beyond weird.

How dare you lol

by Responsible-Ant-3789 3 days ago

Some people eat them together?!

Common southern comfort food

by MallCommercial2576 3 days ago

South of where?

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Usually when people mention southern food, they mean the Southern United States. I live on the opposite side of the world from the US but even I think of the Southern United States when told of "southern comfort food", since it's a very distinctive style of food that is usually just called by this name. Same way if you say "Eastern food", you mean food from the continent of Asia, and you don't normally need to ask "east of where"

by MallCommercial2576 3 days ago

Southern comfort food is S tier legit

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Genuinely think they're being deliberately obtuse.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Like I understand that American defaultism can be annoying, but this just isn't that, it's a culinary style with a name that references US geography.

by MallCommercial2576 3 days ago

I have never heard eastern food and would never think of it as Asian. I probably would think of east Europe

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I think you're the odd one out in that case.

by MallCommercial2576 3 days ago

Maybe they call if eastern food where you are from.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

You live in Hamburg, right? Google "Eastern restaurants in Hamburg". It doesn't come up with Eastern European food. It comes up with Middle Eastern and Asian food. But thanks, now I've got a list of Eastern food restaurants to go to next time I'm in town.

by MallCommercial2576 3 days ago

I mean... it's a very popular dish in the Western world...

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Never heard of it.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

It's not popular in the "western world", the only people that eat this are Americans

by Noah37 3 days ago

It's still not popular outside of Northern America

by Noah37 3 days ago

You are also American

by Noah37 3 days ago

Isnt Canada on the American continent?!

by Anonymous 3 days ago

America isn't a continent. North America is, though. Boy - you just wanna troll, eh?

by Anonymous 3 days ago

So you are still American

by Anonymous 3 days ago

They are North American, although no one really says that. "American" means someone from the United States of America

by Least-Currency 3 days ago

You're practically American.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Ohhhh that makes sense.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Neat, now you have!

by Anonymous 3 days ago

As a Belgian, the first time I read that Americans combine them, I felt sick. I still feel that way now.

by Fast-Firefighter 3 days ago

Nothing of this sounds good for me

by Anonymous 3 days ago

You just have to try it. The chicken and waffles at Hash House a Go Go in Vegas is one of the best I've ever had but it will feed 2 regular people

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I'm not who you replied to, but I'm not flying to another continent just to try one dish in one restaurant in a desert hell city.

by Sure_Most_3579 3 days ago

That's nice. It's still an ocean away and it's still too hot. I'm at the same latitude as Canada. Anything over 26°C is too warm.

by Sure_Most_3579 3 days ago

Man I love heat over 30 and I'm from Calgary born and raised. I've been in Vegas when it was 50c and it was amazing. It's a dry heat like Calgary but you just hang around the pool during the day and roam around at night.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I will not fly to the US to try an overly sweet waffle and a chlorine chicken. Sorry

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Agreed. Have never got the hype!

by Glum_Housing 3 days ago

I dislike sweet things so much that chicken is the only thing that makes waffles bearable lol

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Maybe don't eat waffles of you don't like them

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Op said "bearable". Not "so good when combined". You may try to twist the words but that's not how the world works. We can see through you. Now, try to make "bearable" = "so good" work. But it won't.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I'm not trying to twist anyone's words, what? I'm just saying if someone says that this food combination makes the food bearable, it seems weird to come in and say "well then why are you eating it?" If you think my example doesn't work because I used something that I think is really good instead of bearable, then fine. I think that crepes on their own are just not very good, and I don't like them with Nutella or sweet things since I don't have a big sweet tooth. But add some cheese and ham and they're bearable. Not as good as those same things on a sandwich or toast, but it tastes fine. I like variety, so sometimes I'll have that. Now are you going to tell me not to eat crepes? If so, I implore you to stick to your own plate

by MallCommercial2576 3 days ago

Bruh even the chicken n waffles from KFC are good as hell. Its a sacred combo of sweet and savory Like, ever had a piece of corn bread along with your fried chicken?

by Anonymous 3 days ago

This is just incorrect. Waffle, fried chicken, hot sauce, and maple syrup in one bit is a great combination

by Junior-Channel-6511 3 days ago

It just goes.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Idk whenever I've had chicken and waffles, the waffles are different to how they'd make them if inwere buying waffles alone, if that makes sense. I've always had waffles which weren't sweet or anything, so it pairs nicely with the savoury fried chicken

by Ok-Discount8265 3 days ago

I agree it's so clunky and unsophisticated and bizarre. It's like grilled cheese and spaghetti together

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Sweet and savory is a good combo together
