+100 If I were a founder, I'd never promote a culture of overworking. Instead, I'd build a friendly, supportive workplace where efficiency matters more than endless hours. amirite?

There ARE founders like that. You don't hear about them because they are not billionaires

If I was a dictator, I would be benevolent and everything would be perfect. I wouldn't be stupid like the other dictators who can't understand the vision.

Have you ever watched "cgp grey rule of rulers"? If not then you should, it's a nice watch, and explains a lot.

You can always make more. That's really the only reason, why settle when you can make more.

I swear people think fortune 100 corporations are never ending work machines but that's literally most of them. Keep everyone smart happy and they will do automation. Efficiency is king. Always. Any boss that doesn't promote ways to make things efficient will fail over the long run, guaranteed.

You give an inch, people take a mile. It's why we can't have nice things. There is always someone to ruin it.

You'd probably be too busy doing your job to micromanage office culture.

Pretty normal in many places all over the world.

Sounds admirable and it is a popular opinion. There's lots of small businesses with decent working conditions. You'd not be a very big business though, or be bought up/driven out of the market by a more "competitive" one. In a world ruled by MBAs with spreadsheets, profit is king.

Yes but people like you never get that Amazon level of success. You actually cannot achieve that level of business success without being heartless and taking advantage of employees. Not in a capitalist economy at least.

by Long-Contest-6348 1 day ago

Don't want to be such heartless. I'm happy being unsuccessful. I don't want this kind of success.

In my first job (as a recruiter), my boss/mentor would tally how many potential candidates she spoke to each day. Once she got to 20 or 30 (can't remember which number), she would call it quits for the day, regardless of the time. It was a 100% commission job, and the owners of the company had no problem with her method since she outperformed the entire company. Since then I've worked for companies that had very set work hours. You just HAVE to stay until 5pm, because the job is never over (you just keep working on the next project). They usually offer some flexibility, but none that actually promote efficiency over hours like that first boss.
