+109 I don't think Jimmy Kimmel should go back to doing his show, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's to keep all the 100+ people working on the show employed

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I don't think people understand how many employees a late night show has, or how stable and relatively well-paid even a lower-rung gig on something like that is compared to most any other job in Hollywood.

by nella61 2 days ago

those jobs don't disappear if someone else takes over hosting the show.

by cschmeler 2 days ago

If there is one thing repuplicans hate its job creators

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah but he's a big supporter of all the people who work on the show and that would be a massive amount of lost jobs for people who do need the money

by Anonymous 2 days ago

This, and he also has a contract till early next year or something.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The show is more than just him. He's tryna save jobs

by wizakaden 2 days ago

I think he still has a contract with ABC. He can't bail out not with union jobs on the line.

by ohackett 2 days ago

Tbh, if I had his platform I wouldn't drop it either. Millions of people watching you every night? That's hard to replace with YT.

by Ondrickaicie 2 days ago

True, late night isn't what it used to be, but even a fraction of that audience is still way bigger than most YouTubers pull consistently.

by Ondrickaicie 2 days ago

Sure, Kimmel is probably going to be ok if he doesn't do the show but what about everyone else that works on the show? You have camera operators, set designers, costume designers, hair & makeup people, lighting, etc. There is so much more about this than sticking it to Trump or Kimmel not needing the money. There are actual people that need those jobs that it would do more harm if he didn't than would be to get at Trump.

It's a huge victory for his team. They are extensive and have families. If the team wasn't a factor I'd agree but no

by hammesberniece 2 days ago

This is a win. It's a victory against the idiot in office - It's a slap in the face to the wannabe dictator who is dismantling our country.

by Alberto80 2 days ago

The people that work for him need to pay the bills.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Why doesn't he do his own thing? Probably because he has a non-compete clause in his contract. He should go back to his show and lay into Trump harder than South Park is doing. Keep it factual, call Trump out as the rapist and pederast that he is.

by Successful-Prior-884 2 days ago

He's not doing it for the money. Now it's a chance to "stick it to the man" that tried to get him fired. Plus I'm sure he's thinking of all of the production staff and other positions that were required to support the show, that are now going to be back to work instead of being unemployed and looking for another gig. I'll bet the rage tweeting, sorry, "truthing," is going to be off the rails for the next couple of days.

by Latter-Band 2 days ago

I'm sure he's had to sacrifice his soul. Comedy will be as bland as Ozzie and Harriet. 💤🥱🫩

by kutchmellie 2 days ago

He's in a contract, he doesn't have a choice.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Depends on his contract with abc. If they offer to keep the show going then he might breach it walking away and leave all the money on the table there may potentially be penalties. If they table the show they may have to pay him out the contract. At a certain point, what he wants to do or not do it has little to do with feelings and everything to do with what's in ink.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

He doesn't need the money, but all of his employees who work on the show do. Not going back would screw over a ton of people.

by Streichmaurice 2 days ago

He doesn't want everyone who works on the show to be jobless especially in this economy

by Rich_Algae_3168 2 days ago

He gets a lot more views on ABC than he would on a YouTube show or something. I agree with everyone else saying that he's saving a lot of other people's jobs as well, but the big thing is that Trump tried to shut him up. Now he has failed. Now Kimmel will arguably have one of the biggest microphones in the world, he's not going to just toss that away. He's going to go back and stand up there and say what he wants to say and it's going to drive Trump crazy, there is no way on Earth he should give that up, come on man

by Rolando32 2 days ago

I guess people like him. I don't understand why because I never found him funny

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It is a powerful statement for him to go back. It shows that he won't be pushed around and forced to do YouTube or podcasts or whatever.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

This is what happens when you take the summers off. Jk but I suspect he will go back to it and then try to quit on his own terms without killing the whole show, like with guest hosting through the summers.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I can't speak on Kimmel but I remember years ago when Conan lost the Tonight Show he used a chunk of his buy out to pay his staff until they got another show on cable. I imagine something similar is weighing on Kimmel presently.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

jobs alone is morally righteous. i think not doing it is fine too but, too much damage to people in his personal life to be a realistic option.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's on principal. He was targeted by the president and the FCC for purely political reasons. You really don't get it, do you?

by Fun-Builder 2 days ago

Laying down for an Authoritarian manbaby is not how you handle the situation. It isn't about money. It never was. It's about the message it sends. And Kimmel doesn't seem like the type of guy who flinches.

by alberthakulas 2 days ago

I kinda agree. It would've been great if he had said "oh so you're cowards twice over, well screw you, I quit."

by sebastiankerluk 2 days ago

Lol, hard agree bro. Kimmel's humor shines away from the mainstream network crap. He should def go indie, carve out his own niche. If he's really worth his salt, he'd kill it on a streaming service or YT. Plus, dude's loaded anyway, time to shake off the corporate chains. YOLO, right? 💯🔥
