Technical perfection is not what makes music good. There are a million examples of the best version of a song being a live recording. Sometimes the messiness is what a song wants. Sometimes the energy of performing live is what spurs an artist to give their best performance. I'll agree that there are few all live albums where I'd say the whole album is great and is made better for being live. That's true of studio recordings as well though.

I wouldn't say trash, but I personally don't care for live recordings. They feel like something that might be meaningful if you had been at the event and had specific memories tied to it, but it doesn't make me feel like I was there if I wasn't, and it doesn't sound as good as a studio recording.

There's something about the sound of recorded live music that drives me nuts. It all sounds like it was recorded in a Tuna can or something. I hate like 98% of it cause of that. I'd love for bands to do a studio version of how they play songs live especially Blue Oyster Cult. The studio versions of their songs are tame as Hell compared to how they play them live.

I strongly disagree. I'll also add that plenty of "live" albums have studio overdubs to correct mistakes. I try to confirm whether or not this happened before purchasing a live album, because I want it to be live, warts and all.

I don't listen to anybody that have live albums but I will disagree with the concert part. I go to concerts for the sound. Some live versions are just better. Heathens by twenty one pilots? Studio<<<<Live. Any Chappell Roan song? Studio<<<<<Live. I LOVE how you can hear the instrumentals be more prominent and different vocal parts that otherwise you can barely hear or arent in the studio version at all. Hell, I stream live versions more than I do studio on my 100% legal music app. I can provide a laundry list of songs that I prefer the sound of live than studio.

Only bad bands have bad live albums. Only when a band cannot actually perform their songs live at a high level so they create live albums. Counting Crows, Train, among many others have created amazing live albums.
