+83 Parking lots and parking buildings are a massive waste of space and make cities worse, amirite?

Uhh duh?

by Zettawuckert 15 hours ago

I've had these conversations with people in real life and they've always pushed back on it, stating it's necessity. I guess responses depend on each country's culture on cars.

Where would teenagers have sex and do drugs?

Malls, theatres, alley ways, parks. Use your imagination.

by eleonore17 15 hours ago

dang it, i didn't even think of that 😔

by Foreign-Camel 15 hours ago

Cool, but most people drive cars...so they are needed

laughs in European

Don't be bringing your efficient mass transit into the conversation.

by Blickcarlos 14 hours ago

This is a problem in europe too

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

I suppose that is the advantage of having a much higher population density

by Milliemayert 14 hours ago

it's comparable, if you exclude like alaska wyoming etc etc, and the densest american cities are denser than european ones. the way America is built is a choice.

Just move to a walkable city. Some people like to live that way, me included, to each their own.

It was awesome to live a 1 minute walk from s grocery store. Id walk there 3 times in a single day some times.

"If we invested in public transit" OPs are truly a different breed.

by Odd-Environment9312 13 hours ago

Either that or have even more cars lining the sides of roads. Less parking space will not dissuade people from driving. Would cause more problems than it solves.

by Fun-Age 12 hours ago

Agreed, street parking should be banned.

by eleonore17 12 hours ago

That's why I brought about effective public transit and overall public safety. If people can get to places in under 15 minutes thru public transport, I bet no one would ever choose to sit in traffic for hours, and there won't be a need for buildings solely for cars.

by Foreign-Camel 12 hours ago

I think when they are needed for certain businesses the parking garage should be built down in a hole and not take up space on the surface

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

Is it just me, or does anyone else like to venture out of their immediate neighborhoods? I don't have a problem with public transportation, but most of the time taking metro to where I want to go would take twice as much time. Plus you can't bring stuff with you. How about visiting places an hour away? forget it. Most people, even city dwellers, don't want to live in a little boxed area. Get over the idea that we are just going to all ditch our cars.

People are waking up

by Dependent_View_4403 11 hours ago

But are city planners?

by Blickcarlos 11 hours ago

Would you say they're... getting woke?
