+53 The movie the Long walk was completely ridiculous. amirite?

by Novel-Act3525 12 hours ago

That's nothing, I saw another Stephen King movie where this clown came out a sewer and ate children. The guy clearly does not have a functioning grip on reality.

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

Even crazier, I saw a Stephen King movie where this car was alive and murdered people!

by Deckowgeovanni 11 hours ago

Ello, guv'na

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

I saw a Stephen King movie of a killer hotel room.

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

I've read a Stephen king book where children have an orgy in the sewers. Oh wait, he probably did see that on one particular island...

by Fun-Refrigerator1172 10 hours ago

Absolutely zero evidence that links him to Epstein island. Yes, he made some weird tweets about the issue but that itself is not enough to throw around such slanders.

by ThenComfortable 10 hours ago

Absolutely, he's ridiculous. Kids dont play outside.

by Anonymous 10 hours ago

I liked the film but yeah wish they had cut it down from 5 to like 3 days.

by luzboehm 9 hours ago

Exactly the same thing i was talking about. Just being awake for five days seems hard enough. Liked the movie nevertheless, i would just like to numbers to be different. And everybody in jeans was just…. Comical

by Anonymous 9 hours ago

They had to look pretty for the cameras haha

by Anonymous 9 hours ago

Beauty is suffering.

by Novel-Act3525 9 hours ago

The book is more a psychological horror like most Richard Bachman books. The point is to extend it out and less about physical horror

by Karianesauer 9 hours ago

Thank you! Said it better than I did. A movie being fictional doesn't preclude it from believable for the world it is written in Stars wars take place in a universe where those things are believable. The long walk takes place in America, with Americans.

by Novel-Act3525 8 hours ago

So, if this movie explained that "In a world where boys could walk 300+ miles because (any made up reason)," then u would be ok with it? Like the material wasn't bad, you just needed your hand held to give context to a stephen king story?

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

Thank you. You explained it better than I have. How hard is this to understand. Having said that, I did enjoy the acting and characters in the story. So that's good.

by Novel-Act3525 8 hours ago

Well you're wrong. 80 year olds have hiked the PCT / AT. They're obviously not Olympic athletes. You're just making things up.

by No-Leather 8 hours ago

What does 80 year-olds hiking the PCT have to do with the conversation?

by Novel-Act3525 8 hours ago

This should be pinned, like, in a lot of places. I hate the "fiction, so everything is allowed" mentality.

by gustdibbert 7 hours ago

The book is way more descriptive with blisters and people's shoes falling apart and all that, sure people get charlie horse more often. Not sure the book ending would have worked, maybe it would have, it was very ambiguous. I love it anyway. I always expect the worst when I book I like is adapted. I cried. The two main actors were great, their friendship really left a mark on me. But I understand, a little more suffering or a shorter walk time would have maybe maybe more sense.

In 1983, a 61 year old farmer ran 544 miles in five days to win the Sydney to Melbourne ultramarathon. He won because he didn't sleep and overtook younger, fitter athlete while they slept. I don't think the book or movie is outside the realms of what people can do.

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

Wait till you see the movie "Star Wars".... crazy story with space wizards. Inconceivable

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

Because it is. In the fictional reality of The Long Walk, at least the way the marketing is depicting the movie, our rules don't completely apply.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

In the movies where those things are believable? Very cool.

by Novel-Act3525 6 hours ago

My guy has just discovered fiction and is furious about it.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

suspension of disbelief is importsnt for fiction, but things like the human body and physics etc are generally preserved unless relevant for the plot.

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

No, unless there's some explanation for how their feet don't work like normal human feet, their feet should be assumed to be normal human feet.

by Training-Finding 5 hours ago

I actually agree. Even fiction should be realistic on its own terms.

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

Has anyone read the book and seen the movie?, how did it translate?

by Vast_Mind 5 hours ago

I'm pretty sure the book had them walking at 4mph instead of 3mph too. That's a huge difference, like actually a workout instead of a casual walking pace.

by Anonymous 5 hours ago

The book also has them at a walking speed of 4mph lol. Which Stephen king has admitted was a mistake

by Individual_March 4 hours ago

Read the book

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

Have you read the book?

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

Yes. Long time ago.

by Novel-Act3525 4 hours ago

I don't hate him.... why would you say that?

by Novel-Act3525 4 hours ago

Guys. The movie was a dreamlike allegory. HOW did you miss that

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Interesting take. Would you care to go into a little more detail?

by Novel-Act3525 3 hours ago

The movie is about the Hobbesian state of nature that fascist societies construct and impose on the population, the walk is a metaphor for the grinding trudge of humans through life to break their bodies trying to secure self realisation and financial security despite all the artifically imposed barriers to success created by authoritarian hierarchies, it references real events like the trail of tears and the drafting of innocent boys to the Vietnam war to make a broader point about a Weberian conception of the state as the monopoliser and imposer of violence. The camaraderie and bickering and in fighting teaches us that the most valuable thing in life is forging community with each other as we struggle through existence, acts of kindness and solidarity are what give life meaning. Governments rule their population via divide and conquer, uniting is our only choice but we're often too self interested and short sighted to do so when it really counts. This movie was a 20th century fable

King must've never walked more than 5 miles in his life. Same goes for anyone taking this movie seriously Procceeds to take the movie completely seriously. What were you trying to say with this?

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

If you connect the dots.. you yourself say you've never walked more than 5 miles in your life.

by Anonymous 2 hours ago

I've not an elite athlete by any means, but I have finished several marathons, so....

by Novel-Act3525 2 hours ago

Stephen King is the guy who wrote a book about a thumb that comes out of the sink and attacks people right? Your concern with his realism confuses me.

by Watsicasylvia 1 hour ago

Stephen King also wrote a scene involving group s*s with kids. Hes a creeper.

by Novel-Act3525 1 hour ago

interesting thing to say for somebody with that username. Guess Mark Twain was a raging racist seeing how Jim is constantly adressed

by Anonymous 1 hour ago

Oh wow, ridiculous movie was ridiculous. I had other issues, like the complete lack of context/ background and any kind of character development

by Future_Performer_459 1 hour ago

How much character development do you want out of 4 days?

by Novel-Act3525 1 hour ago

I mean…what did you expect
