Well, most critics and judges are not the best (and sometimes, not even trained) in the areas they judge. I mean, not all art and culinary critics are artists or chefs, sport judges don't need to be able to perform like the athletes and so on. Also being a good critic is an ability in itself. I don't think your is an unpopular opinion, it's just how things work.

Talent alone doesn't make someone famous: there's a lot of other contributing factors. The famous ones are not always the most talented.
