if holidays only have meaning bc of consumerism, maybe we have bigger problems

I think that stores putting stuff out so early kind of kills the 'once a year special occasion' vibe. Christmas is less special because it lasts months instead of just December.

Yea and thanksgiving is like totally grazed over (except in the super markets maybe) when it's the biggest travel / family holiday of the year and still easy to tie to the larger fall / harvest stuff.

Holidays are what you make them.

I'm supposed to buy a Disney snow globe when it's 80 degree No. You're not supposed to do that. You are a human being with free will. The fact that you're letting retail merchandising calendars ruin the meaning of a holiday for you is frankly sad and embarrassing.

I like that TKMaxx has their Halloween stuff out in July because it means I can get it before it's cleared away in August for Christmas. Halloween isn't big here and if I want Halloween home goods there's only two and bit months of the year I can actually get it. The seasonal magic is not the same as when I was a kid though.
