Nah. Rice cooker is useful and makes better rice. And they're not all $200. I usually don't advocate for appliances or gadgets that do one thing, but my rice cooker gets used more than most of my kitchen gear.

Straight up wrong it is better

Takes up counter space and makes the whole house smell weird too

why spend $200? you can buy one for like $20-$50 that does the job lol and the rice cooker you mostly don't have to be looking after it which is nice

Correct. They're nice but by no means necessary.

I think OP vastly overestimates how much the average person spends on a rice cooker. Mine cost ~$20. I prefer using a rice cooker for a few reasons: It doesn't take up a burner on the stove, so I can cook the rest of the meal more easily It doesn't take up a separate pot, so I can use that pot to cook the rest of the meal It doesn't heat up the room as much as using the stove It makes more consistent rice

Induction stove ftw

It takes 15 minutes to make white rice in a rice cooker, and a basic rice cooker is like $20. You can also make full meals in it, not just rice (takes a little longer in my experience). You don't have to do anything, stir or anything, while it's going either. I can actually focus on whatever main dish I'm making. I hesitated for a long time on getting one, but now it's a must have for me. I think they're great. It's not like they take up a ton of space, either.

Mine cost $20. I've had it for a decade, and I can set it and forget it while I focus on other dishes. Effortless rice.

Mine cost $15 and is 10 years old. Works like a champion. Oh, and I have arthritis. Wouldn't want your ableist gatekeeping arse to bitch and moan that I wasted money.
