you name all the biggest movies/shows/games released in the last 10 years that DON"t originate from some kind of written medium (books/comics/etc) and i'll name all the ones that DO originate from written medium guess who is going to have a way way way longer list? not to mention, most authors and their major works often don't make it famous until old age or even well after they die, so yeah of course a novel published a few years ago is very very unlikely to already be a crucial cultural element

I prefer and have a lot more time for audiobooks but this takes is idiotic. Unless literally no one is reading books anymore then they're not obsolete. It's like saying movies are obsolete because VR exists. They're different mediums and I don't even understand how books can be obsolete? They still do their job.

I mean, I teach high school and I see plenty of kids reading recently released fiction books during lunch and recess….. I know heaps of people that read some amazing books that have been released in the last 20 years Maybe you haven't been paying attention ?

The real money is in audiobooks. People can listen to those while they work, sometimes.
