It's not really an exchange of work/product as much as it is you deciding to entertaining someone and share your abilities. It's not vital to anything infrastructure related. So, an artist's choice in this case is pivotal.

I just don't care. If someone was offering me millions of dollars for a couple hours of work, I'm gonna do it. Sorry. And you know what? You should take the money. I'm just never going to support you or your work. But for personal reasons you should just take the money and run. However, if you're already stupid rich, you should stand on principles and not take blood money because you don't actually need it at that point.

If I refuse to own an electronic device or drive a car, I can't make a living. It's not a choice to use these things in the way that it is a choice to perform at a particular venue. I agree that it isn't immoral to perform this festival, because I don't think comedy matters, and I don't think it's legitimizing in any way that enables Saudi Arabia beyond what they're enabled to do just because of how the global economy is structured, but there is a real decision to be made by those asked to participate about how comfortable they are with choosing material gain over taking a personal stand against slavery, and what their relationship with exploitation actually is.
