0.5cm can determine whether a building will stay up or not. There are plenty of buildings designed out of symmetry, but they have to be designed that way from the start.

I get what you're saying, and for the most part I agree, but I think it's also important to acknowledge that assymmetry can also please the human eye! Most of the shots you see in movies and TV are not symmetrical. That's just basic composition. Imagine a perfectly symmetrical living room - identical tables next to the couch, identical potted plants on said table and identical pillows on each side of the couch. The room could look great, but it would suit a hotel room better, as it wouldn't feel very homely.

if you pay someone to do your floors and the end result is an asymmetric mess and you didn‘t ask for asymmetry then they simply did a bad job. our brains are really good at noticing patterns. Because that‘s an important skill for humans. One thing we‘re even better at is noticing if something doesn‘t match the expected pattern. Because that‘s usually pretty important. So if there is a pattern to begin with it better be consistent. Early humans had to spot camouflaged predators in vegetation to survive. That‘s pretty hard to do. So of course people really focus on irregularities in patterns etc.
