I agree with whatever the opposite of this opinion is. People are free to criticize or praise whatever they feel like.

Criticism doesn't mean something shouldn't exist. I guess you're the kind of person who takes criticism personally and sees it as an attack.
by Wrong-Natural-91618 hours ago
OP seems to believe "criticism" simply means a negative or positive judgement, rather than an examination of the work. I'm not sure how you can "experience" a work without examining how you're experiencing it.

I could literally poop, put it on a canvas, and call it art. We could then all agree that it sucks. Its an extreme example, sure, but some art is just that- bad.
by Byost8 hours ago
Like I said, its an extreme example. But some art is objectively bad, no way around it.

Criticism doesn't create uniformity. People criticize to their own personal taste. And saying art shouldn't create debates is just??? One thing people create art for is to foster discussion and debate

AI can't make art.
by jacquelynbeier7 hours ago
You can prompt it to and people will defend it as real art.

"Art" is made with human intention, so one can say that once a person selects an AI genned image to present it's "Art"... but then the question is what is this party saying? For most people, it's not saying anything besides "This is aesthetically pleasing" which makes it not art, or something like "AI is better than people" which is terrible. Making even decent art illustrations with AI isn't impossible, but it can't be simply just asking for an image from a generator and presenting the "best" one... yet pretty much everyone making AI illustrations don't care to do much besides that.

Would Disney be the success it is today if Walt Disney didn't criticize his animators?

Yoko Ono screaming as "art" is proof that you're wrong.

I don't pretend to know but there has to be some kind of standard. Otherwise people can smear anything on a canvas or put pipe cleaners on a stand and call it art. And that's fine for kindergarten and Grade School artists who are learning things not so great for an adult and doubling not great when people buy it for inordinate prices because they think they're missing something and of course they are not.

You nailed the assignment on this bud. But let me know if you'd like to see my blank canvas exhibit. It's nihilistic and speaks to the emptiness of our collective souls. $100 entry fee.

I agree, but the government should never pay for art unless it's for official purposes, like state portraits or decorating public buildings.

How can you not debate/judge something you yourself say is individual expression? How can we deduce what the intention of that expression is without debating what we ourselves believe it is?

You sound like a certain President of the United States who also thinks that we aren't allowed to criticize certain things...
by Anonymous4 hours ago
Art itself can be a criticism for other things
by Aggravating-Tip7864 hours ago
I feel like I need to specify that I meant "criticized" as is "evaluated". I probably didn't used the right word.

A lot of art being sold is money laundering. Art is trash and a complete waste of everyones time. It offers no benefit to human evolution. All that matters is science and mathematics.

Lol well there's a HUGE difference between debating if a color should exist and openly expressing the fact that you think neon like green shoes and a pink suit is a ridiculous combination.

My guitar teacher told me 40 years ago. "There's no such thing as bad music. Only music YOU don't like." Pretty much applies to all art.
by Anonymous3 hours ago
Your guitar teacher was wrong.
by Kelleyabbott3 hours ago
Thats the whole point of art.

Agreed completely, however I wonder who this is directed towards: Artists who "sell out" because they secretly care more about popularity than artistic integrity, or art lovers who think "the more popular, the better it must be".
by Anonymous2 hours ago
Haha it seems like i have expressed myself very poorly. English not being my first language I probably used all the wrong words. What i meant was determining intrinsic qualities or lack there of in a piece of art is an arbitrary opinion and trying to officialize its artistic value by publicly debating or evaluating it leads, I believe, more often than not to conformity and not much more.
