Vacations are more stressful than relaxing, amirite?
by Anonymous4 hours ago
Man if you think vacations are stressful then you're going about it the wrong way. People travel to see places they're interested in, if you're going on vacation just for the sake of it then no wonder it feels like a chore to you. It's not just the trip itself, you gotta learn to enjoy the process man. Planning trips can be fun if you know what you want out of them.

OP gets dragged to vacations by his significant other likely, I know because he is me basically on this opinion.

I get what you're saying but I personally get very stressed even when I go places I want to go and pick the things we do there just because I don't like being away from my cat, my bed, being somewhere unfamiliar is as anxiety provoking as it is fun, I don't sleep well in unfamiliar places so I'm tired the whole time. Airports also really give me anxiety too for some reason I think some people can handle it and enjoy it more than others. I really want to travel and still plan to but it's very uncomfortable for me

I totally hear you although I'd recommend putting 1-2 buffer days between the end of your trip and your return to work. When I was younger I could jump right back in but those extra couple days to get settled and recoup from travel are a game changer

Oh man, I need that buffer day hard I don't have a lot of clothes, so many times I have gotten home and had to like do laundry or else Im going sockless and underwear less to work

You don't have to go to tourist traps to "make it worth it". You are ruining your own vacations with this mentality, which is why you have this opinion. Next vacation, don't do any of that lame touristy stuff, just go somewhere and relax or do things you enjoy.

The relax thing is key. If all you do is go go go, you'll get burned out real quick. And sometimes it is fun to go be a goody ass tourist in a touristy area. As long as it is done in a fun way, it's not as tiring. But I personally prefer a quiet place away from people and responsibilities.

Don't go on vacation if your spending money you don't really have lmao

I think you're vacationing wrong

You really need to rethink vacations. You should try vacation where relaxing is on your agenda. They can be pretty cost effective too. You should try camping or maybe find a cabin.

I'm not a big fan of travel. It's uncomfortable and tiring at best and usually can be pretty physically nauseating. As such, for vacations, I prefer to just rent a cabin in the woods in the rural areas around me so it's not very hard to get there or back. I leave with no agenda (other than having good food to splurge on) whatsoever and wing it when I get there so I can relax and nap when I want and eat when I want. This actually helps a lot because my partner became disabled and handles traveling worse than me now. Each little retreat is quite nice and relatively inexpensive. Much better than trying to go places and do things in time frames, because that's my normal life.

Vacations are stressful for a different reason. You can't relax because you know your work is piling up. But the time you come back to the office you have 600 unread emails and 200 files to complete 🔥

Plan a vacation in your budget and something you actually want to do, lol. Long flights and crossing time zones can make you tired, but plan ahead with a day off or two before going back to work.

I think its more of a personality set thing. Some people are more sociable and willing to go on trips, people that are anti social prefer to stay at home. This is not to be confused with people that do not have disposable income and can not afford to go on vacation.

I totally agree with this. I went from traveling with 3 kids (exhausting) to traveling with a disabled elderly toddler (even more exhausting). I HATE traveling. I haven't had a relaxing vacation since I was a kid.

sometimes a quiet staycation is way more refreshing than all the stress that comes with traveling.

I agreed and it's also strange that people spend so much so they can drink on a beach somewhere. You can drink on the beach here.

Skill issue

Really vacations should end up regular in terms of everything is already planned and mapped out with schedules... Every year ... And therefore becomes not a hassle..but why people gonna people....things are alot easier when it's scheduled and you learn from past mistakes.

You. Never really had a vacation

Some people go on elaborate trips. Others just chill out at home. Others may do a staycation where they just visit local state parks nearby and do some good hiking. Make it as less stressful as you can...... Plus.. Look at you with vacation time!

I think you're vacationing wrong. Like i know people say that everyone has a different travel style, but bro the point of vacation is to relax. If you're stressed WHILE you're on vacation because of the vacation you need to rethink how you vacation.

Are you 15? Why are you letting yourself be peer pressured into stuff you don't like? That is a much bigger issue to address than your inability to plan a decent holiday.

I used to feel this way but I think it depends on the type of trip and who you're with. A trip where I'm walking 20k steps a day, figuring out transport, moving multiple cities is not a vacation … I call it an adventure. It's not relaxing but I do it anyways because I love experiencing different cultures. A vacation to Aruba where I just lay on the beach and eat … is a real vacation!
