+66 Being indecisive is a sign of intelligence because you can recognize multiple perspectives so strongly, amirite?

That's just analysis paralysis. It's a sign of intelligence yes, but just above the level of a narrow minded buffoon. Someone with higher intellect would be able to cut though this paralysis, weigh the options faster, and ultimately also being decisive.

No, this is stupid. Indecisiveness is freezing up before weighing the evidence. An intelligent person can gather and weigh the evidence quickly. You're just trying to justify your own inability to make decisions.

I totally disagree. The main factor of decision making in real life is opportunity cost. When the opportunity cost is not a solid number, it (in most cases) requires bias and instinct. Indecisive people use logic instead, which takes away a clear decision. An example could be going to a bar or a party. A decisive person likes bars more, so they choose a bar. An indecisive person likes bars, but recognizes that they are more expensive, possibly farther away, and will go later. This makes it more difficult to make a decision.

I fail to see how that bears any semblance to intelligence. There's no element of problem solving.

How indecisive… do you ever decide? To you ever make choices? Or are you just thinking about the options forever?

I'd say this is sometimes true. I could see how a smart person might be more in touch with the implications of different choices. This isn't always the case, though, because not everyone who waivers is weighing all of the consequences out; sometimes they're just waffling or scatterbrained. You could also argue that another manifestation of intelligence is having the discernment to judge which decision is optimal. So whether your opinion is true or not depends on the circumstances.

People who know how to make informed decisions definitely aren't less intelligent those who cannot

I don't think it's usually possible to quickly make an "informed decision" when there are no solid numbers and the situation requires bias instead of logic to decide.

by Negative-Revenue1860 2 days ago

Unless you can provide examples of "situation" that requires quick decision, nothing you said will ever convince me that being more informed and knowledgeable makes people less intelligent

Only for about a minute, then you are an paralyzed idiot who can't make a decision. Sit there in a chess game, or a surgery, or a court case, not making a move while someone loses/dies/goes to jail. You won't be getting a second chance.

I feel like this isn't a response to my argument. In your situation there is enough prior knowledge to assess a situation and make an obvious choice. In my situation there are relatively equal pros and cons. (I'm kinda realizing I didn't make this clear in the title)

I feel like this is the impact anxiety has on my intelligence and it definitely makes it a lot worse 😅
