The reason some consider Filipinos the Mexicans of Asia is because of the same cultural history both countries experienced under Spanish colonial rule. The Phillipines was ruled for 250 years from Mexico City which was the capital of the New Spain before it became the country of Mexico. The Phillipines is considered the Mexico of Asia because many observers consider it a Latin American country that was transplanted to the Asian continent. Although the vast majority of Filipino people are of Malay or other Asian stock they still have a lot in common with Mexico and the rest of Latin America with many religious traditions as well as many borrowed words like tamale, menudo and many others. Also your assertion about “most” people of both countries being “ignorant” and “rude” cannot be taken seriously since both countries have a literacy rate above 95%. As a Mexican-American who has studied some history and dabbled in statistics I can say that most of the Mexican immigration to the U.S. has been composed of poor and un-educated Mexicans mostly from Southern states like Guerrero, Oaxaca, Michoacan and Chiapas, don’t see many Mexicans from the central and northern states emigrating north. Also since about a decade ago the U.S Border Patrol stats show that about 50% of people apprehended come from countries other than Mexico with many coming from Central America, Brazil, Colombia. There has been an increase of people being smuggled from China, Turkey, Middle East and others. The idea that the poor, uneducated migrating to other countries for a better way of life is nothing new, since the poor and un-educated from Southern Italy migrated in the millions in the early part of the 20th century primarily to countries like the United States, Argentina and Brazil. These Italian immigrants also suffered discrimination at the hands of the more established northern European Americans.

Philippinos are for the most part a lower class of people, like most Asians they are very backward thinking, ignorant,poorly educated. Number 1. I am not Filipino I am a Spaniard. My ancestors conquered both Mexico and Philippines. Number 2. Being married to a Filipina I have to say they are the warmest and kindest people I have come across. Number 3. I believe that the idea of Filipinos's being labeled the Mexicans of Asia is because they are the ones that take all the low paying labor jobs around the world. For example a large percentage of Filipino migrant workers go overseas to find work as domestic workers, nannys, seamen, construction workers, and nurses. They take all the crappy jobs just like the Mexicans do in America. No other Aisan race takes these crappy jobs or sets such low expectations for themselves. Even the Japanese import Filipinos as construction workers. Similar to the Mexicans in America Number 4. Compared to other people from Asian countries Filipinos have mediocre standards for themselves. For example Chinese and Koreans come to America and open businesses not go to work as slaves for someone else. Number 5. Keep in mind there are exceptions and there are successful Filipino business people.

The reason that the Spanish were able to “conquer” Mexico was because Hernan Cortez was able to amass tens of thousands of Native American tribes against the despised Aztec empire. The second reason was the introduction of small pox by the Spanish conquistadors that decimated up to 70% percent of the native population in the early years. So a combination of tens of thousands of Aztec enemy tribes and lady luck being with the Spanish in the form of biological warfare(small pox). Before the Spanish arrived, Mexico was home to very highly advanced civilizations like the Mayas, Toltecs and later the Aztecs. The Mayas are recognized as one of the most advanced world civilizations of antiquity, and practiced science, astronomy, medicine, poetry among others. Number 2. I agree that Filipinos are some of the warmest and kindest people out there. Number 3. This is where you go tremendously wrong. I don’t know if you are really Spanish or not but one thing is clear, you know very little about the history and connection that the Phillipines and Mexico shared during Spanish colonial times. They share the same religion, same monetary unit the Peso, many traditional customs and words like tamale, menudo, fiesta. Imagine Filipinos with english last names rather than spanish...How joyfull and bliss that would be. I'm so happy I don't have a spanish last name. The original filipino last name sounds much nicer than the spanish last name and I hate those spanish words inserted in the tagalog language. Philippines is a melting pot. You can find Filipinos with so many different faces, chinese looking , Jap looks, spanish (sorry to say) even some filipinos look like people from india. But the most common look is the native looking negrito or malay. If Filiipinos were mixed with brits blood, filipinos would have had straight long noses and not acting corny as they usually do, cuz the queen of britain would not be pleased if people from one of their colonies were considered servants.

Spain's had a very especific policy to encourage intermarriage and cultural assimilation in it's colonies, that wasn't an universal policy practiced by all European colonialist empires. Had the Brits conquered Phillipines they would have handled it like they did with Malaysia, they would have sent lots of Indian indentured servants because they wouldn't have even trusted the local Malayo-Polynesians to do their dirty work. On a side note, odds are The Philippines would have been as prosperous(less poor) as Malaysia, which is as prosperous(less poor) as Mexico. It would have also been a predominantly Muslim/Hinduist country as opposed to predominantly Catholic country.

Filipinos need to stay in the country, stop having more than two babies per household, and start having more better exports instead of banannas, rice, and other agricultural exports. First of all, the greatest daunting task, change the mentality...How will Phil. ever progress if people keep apointing popular people to office who are not qualified, like Pacquiao and ex-dumb actors, and housewives...This makes the country look bad and a joke to the world. That means a change in media..stop showing variety shows with actors that have been around for the past 40 years and not to much on the dancing and singing and becoming american-black entertaining wannabees.
