It was Friday, April 1, 1977. Did the driving test in a Boat -- in my dad's '74 Buick LeSabre. I'm old enough to say I saw Def Leppard open for Nugent.

It depends on the jokes, really. 'April Fools' in my house growing up was things like, "Dad put blue dye in our milk LOL" If they're small, silly, and (actually) harmless, I don't see the problem - with the caveat that it doesn't depend on scaring or upsetting anyone.

wait would making a speaker play a really long sound that says (hello, helo, elo, lo,) be bad?

Personally, I think if you want to be really careful you have to consider what reaction you're wanting. Do you want your friend to laugh? Or be surprised?

I want to see how long it'll take them to catch.

Seems funny to me so long as they don't start thinking theyre being haunted lol.

A cultural icon gas station chain by me, Kwik trip, released root beer milk on April fools a few years ago

It's possible to make non-cruel jokes. Embrace silliness

Ive gotten so many "im pregnant" april fools jokes over the years. Its not even funny or clever.
by zitatowne3 months ago
...the potential for them to be cruel is not 100%. This is stupid.

100% agree

My birthday is tomorrow... And I'm a twin.
by Final-Advantage3 months ago
That's a pretty sweeping generalization. I'd say the large majority are probably innocent jokes trying to make other people happy.
by Anonymous3 months ago
If the prank is cruel I completely agree with you. Not all pranks are cruel.

Nope.

I'm not a fan of practical jokes but a few years ago my youngest son got me pretty good. He put hot sauce on my toothbrush. Mouth burned all day. Good job Wyatt. 👍

No because fr, even "harmless" pranks instantly kill anything resembling joy I was feeling. It immediately makes me mad, I don't get the appeal at all.

There are pranks which are harmless and funny to everyone involved. And those are fine (but need to be carefully planned) but so many just have gotten out of hand

I'm not entirely sure this is unpopular. Everyone around me seems to hate April Fool's. I love it. But yeah. Let's have fun and keep it to things that aren't actually mean.
by Anonymous3 months ago
It just gets not fun when you try to say something serious and everyone thinks it's a joke. Like, I had this one friend who literally confessed to the love of her life, not realizing it was April 1st, and now it's just ruined. I just wish people didn't take it so seriously.
