The waves aren't sound waves if there's nothing to interpret them in such a way. If absolutely nothing is around to hear it, the waves that are produced are merely longitudinal waves that travel through the air until they dissipate.

Guess people think differently wherever you're from. People in my school understand that that's an intelligent, money-saving, environmentally conscious thing to do.

It's funny when they think it makes them look tough or threatening. Especially when they're like 6 inches shorter than you.

You sound like someone who judges a book by its freaking cover. Assuming that you've already read the novel, I find it astonishing that you don't understand the critique of society skillfully written into the story. As people have already stated, it's a metaphor for the upper-class citizens who couldn't give a shit about some of the problems in the world today.

It wasn't really skillfully written into the story. Unless the reader is too stupid to notice, he/she has that theme forced down their throat over and over again throughout the series.

It's not when half of it comes off that annoys me. It's when the paper part comes off but the adhesive doesn't. This seems to happen mostly with labels on games that I buy from Gamestop.

It's especially annoying when the person is so stupid that it should be illegal, and then they get in a fight with you, and rather than make good points, they think they can just use big words, spell them wrong, look smart, and win the argument when that's so obviously wrong.

I've read in at least three different places that in certain Native American tribes, it's traditional for a parent to name a child for the first thing seen outside after giving birth. Ex: Sitting Bull.

I think evolutionary traits would kick in and most people would feel more obligated to rescue their kids, who will be the next generation to pass on their genes, than their spouse, who they have already copulated with.

I remember hearing something like that in Sociology last year. It was a bit different, though. The teacher gave us a scenario where your child, spouse, and one of your parents are all drowning, and you can only save one. He said that most people around the world would choose their parent. It wasn't because of the attachment they had to them, but because they have the wisdom of an older generation. If parents aren't included though, I'd probably choose my kid. It's easy to remarry, but any number of things could go wrong when trying to have another child. And even if you have another child, what's keeping it from developing some sort of life-threatening illness, or being born physically/mentally disabled? At least if I remarry, I'll know what I'm getting beforehand.

Rowling has said on at least one occasion that Snape was the only Death Eater to ever produce a Patronus, I'm sure Voldemort falls into the "Death Eater" category.
