I have a friend who is a foreign exchange student and she said she was shocked to see that most of us are actually skinny, have good teeth, and use proper grammar. She went on to explain how it is taken as fact that every person here is a fat, lazy, redneck.

Look, I'm not really that interested in continuing an argument with a belligerent zealot anymore, so I'll end with this: You have just proven that you are an invalid source of information. You'll ask how, simple: You're comment about the humors, which were popular since Ancient Greece up until about Phineas Gage's time. Now this is just one piece of information, but it shows that you are not at all well-versed in the subject matter. Also, you can throw credentials at me all you want, but you're understanding of your own religion is laughable at best. Maybe if you studied religion the way I do you would be a Humanist too, hmm?

You say you are done arguing, continue arguing, and call me belligerent? Calling me a zealot is a compliment. I feel I have defended myself and my religion just fine and have proven my understanding undoubtedly. I have also shown that I have studied religion. If the way you study religion has made you as belligerent as you are, I don't want to study the way you do. I am truly sorry you feel the way you do.

This is absolutely horrible. No, I don’t mind the first part even though it’s horribly stereotypical.

The second part though. Just because a woman is overweight doesn’t mean she’s less likely to be raped. That’s like people saying people saying provocative clothing is more likely to cause rape. No. People wanting to rape people is more likely to cause rape. Appearances and mannerisms aren’t part of someone’s likelihood of being raped. Anyone. Anyone of any race and any gender and any body type can say, “no.” Looking like anything doesn’t cause or not cause rape. Rapist **** cause rape.

That is all.

The 4 humors were very common in that era's medicine, which is quite obviously what it's referring to. Not discovered maybe, but always believed. What this passage references is actually meant as a metaphor, as most scholars will inform you, it means that there is nothing but the Earth, Heaven, and Hell. Try again.

You are saying the four humors were popular when the Bible was written? That is simply not true. I have taken theology classes and most scholars believe this to be a prophesy. not a metaphor. Don't make things up. The Bible specifies that there is more than Heaven, Hell, and Earth. It talks of stars, the sun, and the moon. The Bible frequently refers to the great number of stars in the heavens.
Genesis 22:17
Blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.
Even today, scientists admit that they do not know how many stars there are. Only about 3,000 can be seen with the naked eye. We have seen estimates of 10^21 stars—which is a lot of stars (The number of grains of sand on the earth’s seashores is estimated to be 10^25. As scientists discover more stars, wouldn’t it be interesting to discover that these two numbers match?)
You said try again...

Romans 1:18-28 has a lot to say.
This is just 1:24-27:
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

The book of Leviticus (written prior to 1400 BC) describes the value of blood.
Leviticus 17:11
‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’
The blood carries water and nourishment to every cell, maintains the body’s temperature, and removes the waste material of the body’s cells. The blood also carries oxygen from the lungs throughout the body. In 1616, William Harvey discovered that blood circulation is the key factor in physical life—confirming what the Bible revealed 3,000 years earlier.
The Bible describes the suspension of the Earth in space. Something not discovered historically til much later.
Job 26:7
He stretches out the north over empty space;
He hangs the earth on nothing.

Think about what you just said, that would be the equivalent of Darwin say in his thesis "Keep in mind that I said so, so it's obviously true." You have no proof that anything in the Bible was even vaguely influenced by any real events, it could be a fiction book taken out of context for all we know. I'm not saying you're stupid for believing in something, I'm saying you're stupid for believing it without open-mindedly thinking it through.

God knows everything. He knows if you care and to what extent. You shouldn't be doing things in His name just to prove to Him or other people that you believe. The idea is that you should do these things out of LOVE for God because GOD IS LOVE and he wants you to care for others.

in this situation, if you live far away from japan, you'd pray for their safety and hope as many can be saved as possible. You would also donate money and do what you can. I agree 100% that if you sit and pray and then do nothing won't be any good. For me, taking the initiative to show that you truely care is enough to show God that you really do care.

If that's what you think that's fine. However, take the tsunami in Japan as an example. So you would rather pray, and wait for a response from god, rather than help them immediately, and save as many lives as possible. You would rather hope that god will make everything better, with some time between your prayer and his actual help, than help now.
And I hope everything turns out well in Japan. I hope everyone could help out in any way they could (even praying, if that's what you think will help), just to show that you are human and that you do care. They are in a difficult situation, and any help is good help.

That's a relevant question. Here's another; where did God come from? Why is it so easy for Christians to accept that God just always existed and that we'll never know how, but can't for the life of them accept that we'll possibly never know how humans came to be.
