I remember reading the post and argument you had that spawned this post. Just so you are all aware. Also, Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker-function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen. Man: "Hello?" Woman: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?" Man: "Yes." Woman: "I'm at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only two thousand pounds. Is it okay if I buy it?" Man: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much." Woman: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2012 models. I saw one I really liked." Man: "How much?" Woman: "I think its 68,000 pounds." Man: "Okay, but for that price I want it with all the options." Woman: "Great! Oh, and one more thing... The house we wanted last year is back on the market. The asking-price is 1.25 million." Man: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer, but just offer 1 mil." Woman: "Okay, honey, you're the best! I love you!"vMan: "Bye, I love you, too."vThe man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him. He starts to smile and asks: "Does anyone know whose phone this is?" That Is All

I know. It's like deciding what age they can have friends. Although I think a parent shouldn't let a kid date at, say, 11.

The post says Controversial, not the opinion all teenagers adapt to seem like rebellious revolutionaries.

a) this is a mis-attributed quote to him.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
This was used as a motto on the title page of An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pennsylvania. (1759); the book was published by Franklin; its author was Richard Jackson, but Franklin did claim responsibility for some small excerpts(broken link since 2012-04-01) that were used in it.

b) you didn't even get the quote right

c) just because a smart person says something, doesn't make it correct.

You want people to follow a religion, not because they believe in it nor because it will endow them with a sense of morals but because it is in their selfish interests to believe in one? Doesn't that completely go against the entire point of religion.

Let's say there is a god, and he, as you say, has the power to decide whether, after a person dies, they get to live happily in heaven or get banished to an eternity of excruciating suffering. If he would decide to send me to hell solely because I don't believe in him, even though I lived a life relatively free of sin filled with helping the less fortunate, then he's just a total **** and I rebuke him for it.
